Realistically, I should probably be giving it three stars, but there's authentic, high-quality Thai, and then there's Thai that's close to home, delivers, is reasonably priced, and doesn't suck. While Krua might not be the most authentic Thai on offer, it definitely fits the latter bill (particularly since Osha jacked up their prices). Panang curry and the 'Sea Splash' did not disappoint -- fresh ingredients, tasty, & plenty of it. I was led to believe that one star on the menu indicated 'spicy' and three stars indicated 'Thai spicy,' but given that the Sea Splash was two stars and only very slightly spicy, I would say that everything here is likely to be safe for the SF white person's palette. Both were in the $11-13 range. (Comparable dishes at Osha run $17 & have gone downhill lately.) The summer rolls were also excellent, and reasonably priced ($5.50 for six pieces). My bf thought the curries were a touch too sweet, but I didn't notice. Would totally order again.

This is a pretty good Thai place. I really like their pumpkin curry.

Food is meh. (Chewy, iridescent beef) Service is meh. (OK, not awesome) Ambiance is meh. (Clean, modern decor but feels contrived) With all of the great Thai restaurants in the city, take your business somewhere else.

They were fast with the delivery and the food was really good! The Massaman Curry is delicious!

Wonderful place for a casual dinner. The atmosphere is comfortable and clean. The decor is upscale, but the prices are modest. The dishes are large and perfect for sharing. Our table of four got quite crowded when everyone ordered their own dish. Many of the dishes come with a side salad which is really nice, the plated presentation is appealing as well. Our meals were tasty and seasoned well. I would definitely eat here again.

Really nicely done with quality food, simple but clean flavors and great lunch specials. While I wasn't blown away by the food, I am giving this place five stars because they high almost every aspect of the meal just right: - Fantastic lunch specials at a great value - Fast service - Clean and modern restaurant - Friendly people - Healthy food I will absolutely be back.

Krua Thai was pretty weak. This new restaurant's modern, metallic decor must of cost a mint; a mod decor that suggests quality eats but the food was simply bad. Our Green Papaya Salad w Prawns ($8) smelt off ( yelp.com/biz_photos/7e_4… ). I've never been repelled by a dish before. My guess was it had too much fish oil. But really have no clue as to why it smelt weird. I would have excused this if it had tasted amazing. It didn't. The green papaya could of benefited from more time to ripen. The shrimp was pretty ok. The Summer Rolls ($7) were okay at best, but I've ordered in rolls that were better. Way too much carrot and mint really unbalanced the taste. The best gauge of any Thai restaurant is their Pad Thai ($11), which hit just bellow par ( yelp.com/biz_photos/7e_4… ). A bit under flavored and the noodles over fried. The sautéed Ginger & Scallions ($11) made the meal more passable but in the end nothing to write home about ( yelp.com/biz_photos/7e_4… ). My Singha leaned pricey but acceptable for a 12oz bottle for $5. Though $5 gets you a 22 oz at some restaurants. The kicker is I was a tad inebriated upon arrival. Shouldn't a few drinks make cuisine better?

I came here for a bday celebration or i wouldn't know this place exists. Really modern and clean decor (read: ikea/west elm/crate & barrel). The two doors side-by-side separated by a sliver of wall really confused me but both doors will get you in and out. There's a full bar and they serve sangria. I was sort of expecting a creative sangria with some thai-ness to it but nope, it was just good ol' regular sangria with lots of fruit. It was good. :) The menu is short and sweet instead of pages upon pages of choices, which works out for me because it eliminates my indecisiveness. I really can't remember what I ordered but there was meat, basil, veggies, and spiciness involved. I did ask for it to be extra spicy and wasn't impressed with the level of heat. I dont know if my shade of yellow didn't give off the hint that i meant it when i asked for extra spicy? Moving on... My review is a few weeks delayed but considering that I can't remember what I ate or could recall any blow off my socks moments...Krua is just alright.

Super convenient location, great ambiance, very friendly staff and some of the best appetizer soup I've had - seriously! We were drawn into this new spot by the $10 lunch special sign (too bad we learned of Yelp's $3 off on this after we paid!); my BF got it and it consisted of two small veggie rolls, rice, curry (he got the sweet pineapple chicken kind) and salad. I got the chicken larb salad and we both were treated to the very tasty appetizer soup: the closest thing to Jewish chicken soup (with tofu and kep of course) that I've tasted. While his portions weren't huge, the curry was extremely rich and tasty and my larb salad was punchy to say the least: extermely refreshing and just the right composition of meat, veggies & peanuts. The waiter was SO friendly and the price totally right and the setting very clean and calm - a warm welcome compared to the other crazy spots just one block own on 16th. We may very well be back for the $7 speshul :)

Came in on a Sunday night and they readily seated our group of 14, moving tables around to give us a big long table. Decor was modern and clean. The menu design amused me - they had "Pad C U". Great service from attentive waiters. I had the "surf and turf" - basically chicken, shrimp and vegetables in a brown sauce. That brown sauce is sweet, goes great with rice - I wound up having an extra bowl of rice with it. The appetizers look great too - will definitely try the fresh spring rolls next time. There was an odd scuffle with a hobo who was apparently trying to force his way into the restaurant, near the end of dinner. But one of the waiters came to the rescue and wrestled him outside and away from the restaurant. He returned to a hearty round of applause from the clientele.

we have ordered twice but the quality went from 8 to 4 in one week!!!! did they change chefs? was it the chefs day off or what???? nothing worse than inconsistent and surprising mediocre food all the sudden
(2)Sally M.
Ironically, not only did my dining companion and I almost not go here last night because the modern decor looked "too fancy," but I almost sub-consciously hesitated giving a 5-star review for the same reason.... I think the problem is that so many of us are jaded in SF for two reasons: 1) Osha Thai ruined it (it's fancy, modern, but the food is just average) 2) There's an abundance of Thai restaurants to try & compare And yet, Krua Thai stands out from the crowd. The food is better (imho) than Lers Ros Thai, Little Thai (T2J Old Little Thai), and Thai Stick. Possibly more authentic, or with a different spin than Benjarong Thai (also great food AND great ambiance / service). And even though Jitlada may be my new favorite for quality of their food, their ambiance / decor is simple, and what we've all come to expect from a Thai restaurant. So for Krua Thai to have food that's as good or better AND modern decor, honestly my dining companion and I were pleasantly pleased. We ordered the Ginger & Scallions Shrimp and the Chicken Pad Thai (I know, I know, not so adventurous, but it was late). The Ginger & Scallions was delicious - very fresh ginger taste, and yummy vegetables. And the Pad Thai was surprisingly not as orangish-yellow as usual, but one of the best tasting dishes I've ever had. They hit it *dead on* in terms of spices, not too oily, but not too dry, and it was superb. (And as we all know, there's plenty of bad tasting Pad Thai in SF.) I loved the shades of gray walls, the wine display above the bar, the comfy window seat with pillows, the modern hollywood regency style (both the white chairs, as well as the black & silver - a la: annesage.com/.a/6a00e552… ). All tastefully done with such minimalism.

As neighborhood Thai places go, this one is great. Reliable, usually easy to get a table, friendly staff, good food and a nice environment. Last time we ate there, we had my favorite dish, Yellow Tango, which is a spicy mango and chicken curry. It's tasty. We also had the fried banana for dessert, which was surprisingly good; a fresh banana fried lightly in a spring roll wrap with really smooth vanilla ice cream. Krua is our favorite Thai place in the Mission and Castro. Delivery is available, but it's worth eating in for a glass of wine and the good service.

Like many other reviewers here, I came here with my Scoutmob coupon. I'm kind of shy about using coupons, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to treat my family to a little lunch with a discount. When we arrived in the early evening/late afternoon, the restaurant was COMPLETELY EMPTY. That scared me a little, but now that I think about it, we probably were just there before the dinner rush. The decorations are lovely and I sat comfortably in one of the bay windows. - Goldbags: An attractive and delicious appetizer. I recommend it :) - Crispy Basil Chicken: Not that crispy, but with a delicious bite to it and very filling. - Ginger and Scallions with Calamari: Nothing special. Good, but I wish I ordered something else. - Thai Iced Tea: Sweet! Although I've had taller glasses at other places, but let's not be picky. Paired nicely with the spicy chicken. The service was great, even though I felt like I was being obnoxious taking pictures and checking in with my phone. Thankfully the waiter noticed I was poking around on my phone and told me he already applied the Scoutmob coupon to the bill. Thanks, Jason! (His name was on the receipt.) And finally, for the bathroom review: people say it's dark, but you just need to turn on the light on top of the mirror. The dark floors and walls match the restaurant decor, that's all. It's clean and matches the feel of the place.
(5)Rebecca S.
Really flavorful food and the chairs are super comfy. We were the only ones in the restaurant so I hope they do a lot of take-out business! Thai tea martini was interesting but I don't ever need to get it again.
(4)Rohan D.
The sampler was pretty good, it had "curry samosas" which was kind of weird. They were more like fried dumplings with a very simple yellow curry mix inside. Quite good, but I was expecting an indian samosa in size. The place is very nice, clean, simple and I love that all the chairs are comfortable, they handled crowds well and I always was able to get the waiter when I needed something. I had the tamarind curry... well it didn't at all like tamarind, just another generic thai curry mix. I wasn't impressed too much by it and was expecting a stronger tamarind flavor. Honestly the place is god but kind of expensive for the quality of the food you're getting. Probably won't be back, but not a bad place.

Of the Thai places that deliver to the Mission, this is my favourite. We wanted vegan with zero spiciness. Success. They were very accommodating.
(5)Colleen B.
In the plethora of great dining options in the Mission, this one escaped my radar - until today. I ordered delivery, which came in a record 30 minutes! The food was fresh, delicious & well portioned. This will be for sure, my new go to Thai spot for delivery! The driver was courteous & I am happy to be avoiding the fog, watching the Giants & enjoying a great meal.
(5)Gee K.
Great food, nice atmosphere/space, friendly servers, Good deal (lunch special), good location (easy parking during the day)... Sounds like Grub Hub has issues with delivery.

Krua Thai b hella good! Some tasty food and great service. and they deliver! whoot whoot, bitchs!! xo P

Here's the skinny on what we ordered: ($10 Lunch Specials) -Diner 1: Chose the Taffies appetizer, soup, salad, brown rice, & Garlic and Black Pepper Pork (sautéed garlic & black pepper seasoning w/ snow peas, baby corns, mushrooms, and carrots.) -Diner 2: Chose the SHUmai app., soup, salad, brown rice, & Sweet Green (Chicken) Curry (coconut milk with peas, carrots, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, eggplants, bell peppers, and basil leaves; served in green coconut curry) Service: 5 stars Decor / Scene: 5 stars Food: 3.5 Hot Thai tea: 5 stars Try it? Yes We finally gave Krua a try with the Scoutmob 50% discount. I've been hesitant because my Yelp friends' reviews are very mixed, and I had just generally been under the impression that it was going to be a rip off based on seeing the space from outside (modern decor and not much activity / business). What was the verdict? I'd say more of a 3.5 for food (better than "ok," but I won't be craving it), but the service and atmosphere fairly bump it up to 4 stars. The prices were good especially with the Scoutmob deal and the lunch special. I'd recommend you give it a try. I think we'll be back.
(4)Al G.
Krua Thai is a great option for Thai food in the Mission. I think its one of the best Thai restaurants in the city.
(4)Jess C.
I wanted to love Krua Thai, it's just as swanky looking as Another Monkey, Osha, and Thai 530 nearby, but the food here is just not good. Sorry Krua.
(2)Tom W.
We had a very bad dining experience at Krua Thai-- the wait service got into a physical fight with customers in the restaurants, which went on for over 10 minutes. In all my years of eating at restaurants, I have never seen a scene like this. It completely disrupted the dining room and wrecked our dining experience. The wait staff should be properly trained how to interact with customers in difficult situations.

Ordered take out here a couple of times and have so far been satisfied. One time the pad see ewe I ordered was drenched in sauce and it completely dominated the taste of the food. Overall though the food is above average though the variance is also higher than average. The restaurant looks clean and there're always servers standing politely waiting for their customers' call. So while I speculate dining here would be a positive experience I cannot say for sure.
(3)Mar L.
Good comfort food. The non crispy Pad Thai is ok..Their curries though such as the Pumpkin red and the Green one are really good...Their seafood special is all a bunch of seafood and it is indeed great tasting..Its seared, grilled with an amazing flavor..The mojito and pink mojito are awesome because they have tons of mint.. The sangria though i didnt like too much because the taste was more sour than sweet, its very different from the usual Spanish flavored Sangria.

Thai food that "hits the spot" within a budget. Had dinner on a Sunday around 6:30PM and the place was absolutely empty, which made us initially worried about the caliber of Krua Thai. However, we were early and it was a three-day weekend so things were probably a bit slow; many people came in later (~730 or so). Several members of our party were running late but the restaurant staff didn't mind and let us relax for an hour as we ordered appetizers and drinks, not forcing us to order entrees until we were ready. I appreciate not feeling rushed through dinner, which seems unusual these days. Again this may not be the busiest of restaurants but that served us well. The food itself was very flavorful and spicy (be sure to take note of the spiciness ratings indicated by "+"). We were wimps and opted for "+" and "++" dishes. Got the crispy egg rolls, cashew nuts platter sauteed, and drunken noodles (my favorite). Also ordered the pink mojito (the waiter pronounced it with a sharp 'j' as in 'jive') but would pass on getting that next time; didn't taste like anything but juice. All-in-all, I would come back if I happen to be in the neighborhood and to be craving Thai. Definitely "hits the spot." [1] [1] My friend literally said that aloud when dining here; clearly this place is onto something. Or we were just really hungry. Or both.
(3)Asch C.
Great restaurant, the environment setting is very relaxing, the owners and workers are always wonderful and most of all the food are outstanding specially the appetizer samplers. A perfect place to bring families, out of town friends, or just to have a "me time". Thank you for the special dinner.

I was very pleasantly surprised with this unassuming restaurant. Located on a busy intersection, it is easy to miss....but once you find a parking space, it is definitely worth trying it out. It's very open, airy, simple yet elegant dining space is suitable for dinner with a friend or even a group of friends. Everyone in the restaurant was very friendly, greeted you with a smile and a hello. Our server, Mita, was exceptionally friendly, helpful, and easy to talk to. She was very attentive and returned once or twice making sure we have enough water and asking us how everything is. My friend had the Crispy Chicken and I had a taste of it. It was just wonderful! I will be sure to order that dish next time I return...which I hope is soon! I had the Pad Thai (combination...chicken, shrimp). Both dishes came very quickly, and were nicely done. They were very tasteful and worth every penny. My friend and I were glad to get there early enough (Saturday, 6:30ish)....by the time we left, people were coming in and it was getting fairly crowded. So, if you're looking for a new Thai Restaurant in the Mission....if you live close by...just walk on over. If you are driving, allow yourself some time to find a parking space (especially if it's a weekend).....but definitely worth it! This is the ONLY reason why I did not give it a full 5 stars. I really want to give 4.5.... less 1/2 star for parking situation....but the food, ambience, and service are all 5 stars!! Say hi to Mita for me! I think she works mostly evenings..... :-) Andy

Gertrude Stein once said of Oakland, "There is no there there", and I believe the same could be said of Krua Thai. I should have been tipped off by the fact that at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon this place was absolutely empty, even when being listed on Scoutmob, but I am a thrifty bitch and it's in my neighborhood, so that's how I found myself eating here. I had the Chicken Satay appetizer, which was pretty standard for a Thai restaurant, but I've never really understood these skewers. Restaurants pound the chicken meat so that it's thinner and then impale it on these flimsy wooden sticks, and when I bite into the skewer to pull a piece off, I often wonder if I'm going to get a splinter in my mouth. Maybe this is an irrational fear, but there has to be a better way to do this. Just like you can tell whether a pizza place is good by trying their basic Margherita, curries are a good starting point for any Thai restaurant. At the moment, my favorite is Penang Curry, and this one did not measure up to some of the better ones I've had in town. While they will vary differently (Thai House in the Castro's contains no vegetables and is a rich reddish orange, King of Thai Noodle's does contain veggies and is just a shade lighter than peanut butter) the flavor notes are generally consistent: Chili paste, peanut, lime, fish sauce, coconut milk. You might get coriander or garlic or galangal, but this particular Penang Curry at Krua was imbued with an odd flavor like cilantro or mint. It was loaded with slices of onion, carrot, and green peas. I ordered mine with chicken, and it had an odd, almost rubbery texture to it. I ate it all; it wasn't awful, it just wasn't what I expected. I finished off lunch with a heaping scoop of coconut ice cream topped with chocolate sauce. Now we're talking! The coconut ice cream was quite good, with large chunks of sweet coconut meat throughout, and the little bit of chocolate drizzled on top was the perfect counterpart, like eating a Mounds bar without all the preservatives. When it comes to decor, Krua is well-appointed, but more for a wine bar or a European aesthetic, and even the music they choose to play reflects that. If you walked in and hadn't seen the menu, you'd think you just stepped into a boutique hotel bar and not a Thai restaurant. I'm not saying the place needs to be festooned with batiks and elephant memorabilia, but it could use a little more warmth. I love Thai food, and while this wasn't the worst I've had, it's not likely to be someplace I'll return to. It's not so much that it was bad, it just wasn't particularly good. There is no there there.

Business hours have changed. Monday - closed Tues - Sunday Lunch 11-4, Dinner 5:30-10PM
(5)Thomas D.
Meh.. Fried food tasted like the oil they fried it in. Server barely said one word or smiled. Presentation and ambience were good, but place is lacking creativity in their menu, there were only 2 pure fish options, at least 5-6 dishes were shrimp, scallops and calamari in some sort of sauce.
(2)Ankur J.
Came here for dinner on NYE. As a vegetarian, I really liked the Massoman Curry - perfect level of spice. Otherwise at most other places I go for the yellow curry. Oh, and the soju mojitos are well made and worth a try. I recall like the original one of the pink one.
(4)Linda W.
The food was decent, but the service was disappointing. After we were seated, we waited around 15 min for our server to come to our table. When he finally did arrive, he brusquely asked us what food we wanted. He wasn't interested in answering my questions (I wanted a drink recommendation), explaining any specials (were there any? none were described to us), or my attempt to show him my scoutmob offer. From his tone of voice and behavior, it seemed like all he wanted to do was get our order in and move on to the next customers. I felt like we had decide quickly or risk not seeing the server for another 15 min. Maybe the restaurant was under-staffed? Still, that isn't excuse for brusque, unfriendly service. On the plus side, I did enjoy the Seafood Splash -- yummy red curry with an assortment of seafood. We also got the tango curry -- nice yellow curry with a few slices of mango and some dryish chicken breast. Still the decent food didn't outweigh the mediocre service. Without the scoutmob discount, prices were also a bit high, especially given the level of service. We won't be back.

Conflicted. The food was good, loved the flavors, but the rice was absolutely terrible. How can you mess up rice?!!!! I ordered the massaman curry, pineapple fried rice, and tom kha soup. The tom kha wasn't that great, tasted too watery. The pineapple fried rice was really good, except the consistency of the rice was really weird. It was like a paste. All the rice coagulated together so you couldn't see the shape of any individual rice, it was just a blob of starch. It was delicious, but the texture was really bad. So i was conflicted. The massaman curry was also pretty good, but again, the rice ruined it for me. I would've just cooked my own rice, but I was too hungry. I'm confused as to how a restaurant can mess up cooking rice. I ordered it to be delivered and it took around 1.5 hours (which is pretty long imo). Maybe it was in the car for really long and the condensation from the container made the rice weird? I might order from here again, but I'm going to request that they make sure the rice is cooked right.

We ordered here at 8pm on a Friday night from Eat24 for delivery. There was an estimated delivery time of 45-60 min. At 90 minutes, I checked with eat24 to see what our order status was. She called the restaurant, apologized for it being late and said it would be at the apt in 20-30 min max. 45 minutes later (we are now over 2 hours after ordering at 10:15pm) we called the restaurant ourselves to see where they were. They hadn't even started making our food & in fact lost our order. Obviously at this point we canceled the order, but they didn't seem concerned or even apologize until really pushed that this wasn't the way to conduct business. The person on the phone said nothing like this has ever happened before - however when I got on here to write a review I noticed that this seems to be a reoccurring problem with this place. The food may be good, but DO NOT order delivery if you intend to actually receive any dinner....
(1)Matthew L.
If you're looking for great Thai food with a modern environment this is the place. My friends and I went there for dinner on a Saturday evening, food was fresh and the service was great. I ordered the chicken red curry and the seafood curry and both were good. I would certainly return if I'm in the area. Btw the black chairs they have are super comfy!
(5)Y W.
I was ready to dislike this place because of its modern and trendy look, and we have enough of that in my neighborhood. But! Turns out this place is not that popular! Therefore, it's not crowded or noisy, plus, the floor is meticulously clean, which is fabulous for bringing my toddler here. Woo hoo! If you have a kid, you know what I mean. The guys who work here are very friendly and service is fast. Finally, there are several vegetables in their green curry, my favorite Thai dish, which is my admittedly blunt measure of Thai restaurants. My kid likes the pad C U (not my spelling). I'm not a fan of their peanut sauce curry, which is overkill. However, overlooking a couple of their dishes I don't like (mostly the nouveau-Thai stuff that aren't just renamed traditional Thai dishes), there's plenty left to like.
(5)Jessica W.
I get the papaya salad here on the regular. I recently started venturing out of my comfort zone and trying other items on menu. I think this is as good as Thai food gets in San Francisco, which is very good! Even my boyfriend, who can be a bit picky when it comes to food said it was really good. I've never dined in except to enjoy a very nice glass (or two - hey it was buy one get one free!) of the Pinot Noir while I waited for my to go order (and then lingered until I finished my wine). I tend to judge restaurants pretty harshly based on their wines by the glass and Krua Thai passed the test.
(5)Nancy B.
This is my absolute favorite Thai restaurant in all of SF! In fact, this is my favorite restaurant in all of SF! Food is amazing and very healthy!!! I love the drunken noodles (with no chiles) and the ginger and scallions mix and match. There are lots of fresh vegetables in every dish, which makes this place so good! The service is always very fast and friendly. The modern decor is very visually pleasing. This place is great!

"Just got paid, Friday night, Party huntin', feelin' right" Couldn't stay in on a Friday night, not when I'd been cooped up working indoors all week. But I didn't really have any place in mind, felt like trying somewhere new but didn't wanna spend a ton of money either. So I check in on Scoutmob, see which new places they're promoting, scroll past a place called Krua Thai, never heard of it before, but read the review, then check out what people on Yelp are saying about it, and figured you know what - with this Scoutmob 50% off discount, I can try the place out at very low risk, so why not? Plus, the pix online looked like it was one of those cool, trendy Thai places, so off we go. Drive past it a couple of times looking for parking (this is near the Valencia corridor after all), was about to give up and go home, but lo and behold, a parking spot opens up a block away. Park, walk to the venue and as soon as we walk in, I think i'm gonna like this place - smells good, looks cool/hip, and we are greeted with smiles right at the door. The fiancee turns to me and tells me she likes it so far, so I'm already playing with house money. Sit down to order and the menu is right up our alley - the spicy items are denoted with anywhere from 1 to 3 asterisks, with 1 being spicy, and 3 being Thai spicy. Yeah buddy, my kinda place! The asterisks mean that our menu is very manageable - only look for the dishes with 3 notches, we're goin' in on the spice, yo! Settle on steamed Shumai to start - delicious, tasty, with just enough spiciness to warm up our palettes. Then we were planning to order Zesty beef and an order of Hot Basil Chicken (we always order hot basil chicken, we know it's safe). The waitress steered us from the Hot Basil chicken - it's very good, she says, but most of my customers love the Crispy Chicken with Basil even more. SOLD! Make it extra spicy (only had level 2 spiciness on the menu) and let's do this - I LOVE when a waitress makes a recommendation like that, way to take charge! Anyways, the food was DELICIOUS! Very spicy, but not too spicy we couldn't enjoy it (BEWARE - I LOVE spicy food, the spicier the better, so "very spicy" for me means "way too spicy" for a lot of people, just FYI). Flavorful. The crispy chicken had a crispy, sauce-covered skin to it, the Zesty beef was, um, very zesty! Plate sizes were perfect - not too much to feel overwhelmed, but just enough to make you feel like you were gonna need to walk the meal off for a bit. And washed it down with a Singha, perfect combo! The bill came, told the waiter we were dropping Scoutmob on 'em, and boom, bill came back adjusted, we were all in for 35 bones including tip! Now THAT is what I call a Friday night! This is marketing at its best - Krua Thai just got a new customer because they partnered up with Scoutmob to give me a discounted try of their food. NOTE: I am NOT a Scoutmob employee, I just give props where props are due, and I would not have tried this place without the discount, so #BANG!

Excellent Company very good for office catering. They have some extremely tasty food here.

Krua Thai is a reasonably priced Thai joint with quality food. Some of the cuisine is your standard Cali-Thai fusion found all over SF, but there's some items on the menu that were new to me. I've tried a few of the lunch specials -- which are a bargain at $10 -- and have never been disappointed even when I strayed from the standard curries. The place looks great. The dark, inward-facing Bangkok 16 space was remodeled with not only a new interior, but new street-facing windows that really open up the space. It looks top notch, especially compared to what was there before. Give them a try before the ScoutMob deal ends!
(4)Bjorn F.
When I walk by, this place always seems empty. How have they stayed in business this long? Is it mostly take-out? Is it a Pollos Hermanos kinda deal? Who cares, the food is awesome! Pumpkin curry was really good, as were the wide noodle dishes. Friendly staff that let us squeeze in just before closing and never rushed us. Maybe not the most creative/deep menu, but well executed with quality ingredients. I'd put it slightly above nearby 530 or Osha.

With such excellent service, it's a pity the food was so bland and disappointing. We ordered the Sea Splash (Seafood in Red Curry) . Though there was a fair amount of seafood and fresh vegetables, the curry was boring, neither particular spicy-hot nor spicy-flavorful. Pad Thai noodles were chewy and overly-greasy. Flavor-wise, the noodles were too sweet, needing more acid, while the chicken needed far more salt.

My first experience with Krua Thai was actually at 1 p.m. on a weekday. I was wandering around the Mission looking for Muddy Waters and had a hunch that I was going the wrong way. I stopped in at the cleanest-looking place that was open and found myself in a trendy-looking restaurant staffed by two bored-looking Asian men who looked at me as if I'd wandered in off the street. Which I had. They were very nice, though, and promptly told me that I had to get back onto Valencia, etc. My second and third, and first real, experiences with KT were through a Scoutmob coupon. KT got great reviews on Yelp and the coupon was for 50% off so the Husband and I drove down 16th, miraculously found parking nearby and had ourselves a seat. This place was jammin' at around 8:30 p.m. so TIP ALERT it was a good thing we had made an OpenTable reservation. It took about 10 minutes for one of the waiters to bring us our menus, another 10 for them to take our order, and about 30 minutes before we got our food. Now normally, I would immediately cut stars right and left for this kind of service but I forgave them because the food was really pretty good and the price was great. We used the Husband's coupon and then went back a few weeks later with my coupon. Between the two times, we ordered: - Wings: nice and spicy - Cream cheese taffies: like fried crab rangoon but lighter - Crispy chicken with basil: exactly what it sounds like, great flavor - Sweet green curry: standard green curry - "Sriacha" madness: great kick to it - Fried banana with vanilla ice cream: delicious, especially with the honey they give you Check it out, especially since the Scoutmob deal lasts through April, I believe.

Stumbled (literally) upon this place, and I've been back frequently. Scenarios: - In the Mission? Park and head to Krua. - Have a friend with Foursquare/Scoutmob. Ask and head to Krua. - Around Dolores Park? Walk over and head to Krua. I usually do not understand the servers, but they are really helpful and the service is great! Our servers filled up our waters a ton of times. These people know me by name and what I order: sampler and the crispy chicken. consistent and clean. I enjoy the atmosphere because it is different from a "traditional" Thai restaurant. It feels like a lounge in the evening. All in all, I would recommend this place and maybe continue with drinks at Elixir next door.

I suspect this will become my favorite Thai place. They have an excellent variety, the actual food quality is good: not greasy, food is well marinated, not overly salty, and you can taste that everything fresh and high quality). The prices are very reasonable and the space itself is very cute. I came with a big party and everyone loved their food. Parking was easy (street) and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Great place, great food, and great prices! Monday 2 for 1 on beer and wine Tuesday 50% on any bottle of wine My BFF happened to stumble onto this place since we didn't want to go to any of our usual stomping grounds in the Mission. We were so amazed...where have we been? Service was excellent and very accomodating They have contemporary, fine lines, and minimalistic interior. We had their green papaya with shrimp salad $8, tom yum chicken soup $5, and mix/match sautéed beef sriracha madness $10. All dishes were very delicious and great portions! We will be coming back here to explore and enjoy all of their food!! Actually we are coming back here for my birthday! :)

Love this place.i was in the area and didn't know where to eat but I felt like having Thai so we decided to go in here with no expectations. Best decision ever, everything we ordered was delicious, had the surf and turf and my boyfriend had the curry. I had to come back to the area so we decided to eat here again for the second time ina week.would definitely recommend it and come back
(5)Cara H.
Went here for the first time at 6:15 on a Monday night. It was totally empty (not surprising given the time and day of the week). The interior was really nice - very modern - and the chairs were comfortable. Service was great - they were around and attentive without being too obtrusive. The food was good. Pad See Ew (Pad C U on the menu) was flavorful, massamum curry was tasty but a bit too sweet. We got the tofu+veggies version of the curry and there was a nice variety of vegetables. One side of the menu is definitely cheaper than the other - our bill was $25 for 2 entrees and a beer. We'd totally come back! I'm glad we have a good Thai place right around the corner.
(4)Sara B.
The service is so slow - both at the restaurant and with home delivery!

I cant believe it took me this long to Yelp my favorite Thai place!! This is the only place I will eat Thai in SF. Not only is the staff amazing, friendly, and also cute!! But the food is wonderful. I have a habit of always getting the same thing and its not gotten to the point that they just know what to order me... HAHA The lunch specials are super yummy and at a great price! I have gone on nice romantic dates here and also made reservations for parties of 12. They always make the meal and experience perfect! If you haven't been yet your missing out! They are busy for dinner so make a reservation, you'll be happy you did!

DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY FROM THIS PLACE! We ordered tonight at 7:20pm and were told it would be 55 minutes. After an hour and a half I called to check on our order and they told us it that they had been really busy and our order was the next one up and would be ready in 5 minutes. 50 minutes later we STILL didn't have our order so we called back again. It was now 9:40 and we were ready to gnaw our arms off. This time they told us that they only had one driver and that's why our order was delayed. They offered us 50% off our order or cancelling it. I asked when we would be getting our order and she said it would be ANOTHER 25 -35 minutes. Our order was ready but they wouldn't be able to deliver it for another 25 - 35 minutes.... so basically, it would be cold and old and they were only offering 50% off. No Thanks. So three house later and still no food. :( Even worse, this is the second time they've taken forever to deliver. And last time they also screwed up our order. We were trying to give them a second chance but clearly that was our mistake.
(1)Kate B.
This thai spot in the Mission has pretty standard (read:mediocre) thai food. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't outstanding either. The decor is far more upscale than is warranted for the food delivered, but I suppose that's where the slightly higher prices come in. I had the "Sriracha Madness," which was very lackluster and sadly the sriracha taste was hardly present in the dish. Not impressed, will not return.
(3)Susan C.
This is a nice clean space, but it looks like a Tapas Bar with all the wine on the wall and the food tastes like it's not actually cooked by somebody who really knows Thai cuisine as I've both been to Thailand and Thai restaurants enough times to just feel this is an americanized version. It's bland. The service is lovely, the place is clean and you won't leave hungry, but it's just not great Thai food and that's why the place was empty when I went in there and still was 40 mins later when I left when it was peak time for good food in the Mission.
(2)Angelo S.
Rating: zero stars for the most insipid, poorly-executed Thai food in all of San Francisco. All our dishes had overcooked, sinewy meat, bland, watered-down sauces, and lackluster flavors. This was by far the worse Thai food I've had in my life. Never again. Wanted to try something different from Osha and ended up with the most disappointing Thai food EVER - lesson learned.
(1)Bhavnak K.
I give this place 3 stars for being a fairly decent 'thai fusion' restaurant. Don't come here expecting authentic Thai flavors, you'll be disappointed. Recommendations: The Krua Sampler Larb Crispy Papaya Salad (I thought it was pretty creative) Vibe is more loungey than your typical Thai restaurant. Service was good (I speak Thai, so maybe that makes a difference) we celebrated a friends birthday and they offered us a big dessert platter (fried banana and coconut ice cream) on the house.
(3)Lisa C.
We had a really great experience here. The food was good, the service was good, the place had a modern and casual feel. We started with the summer rolls with prawns which were delicious and then had the pad see ew with beef and the yellow tango chicken. The pad see ew was good but not spectacular, but the chicken was so good! The curry was flavorful with a sweet aspect from slices of mango but still had some kick. Prices were reasonable- I will definitely come back here.
(4)Java Z.
Krua has very good and authentic food. Beautiful space, good drinks. Their lunch special is an incredible deal. Great value overall the larb and krapow both are as good as any that I've had in Bangkok. Good attentive service I'll be back again and again. Almost a 5 star...
(4)Arcee X.
Just came back for a birthday dinner. Food was great, prices were good. There's a lot of promotions out right now on scoutmob, I think I saw one on groupon. Service was mediocre to terrible.. so expect that, but the Kitchen cooks up some amazing food. And the Chairs.... +1 star for the super comfy chairs! And another +1 star for the 50% off beer and wine.
(4)Jimmy N.
Dined here with a friend of mine and I have to say, I am quite the Thai food connoisseur. I love Thai food and many have said that in my past life, I probably was born Thai. The restaurant itself is very nicely designed and tastefully-decorated. You can sit at one of the inside tables or, if you like people watching, can sit at a table by the windows. We had various dishes, which I don't recall the names of, but I do remember them to be very tasty. Yes, their portions are a little smaller than other Thai restaurants, but please, my fellow Americans, learn to eat like a European. Perhaps your waistline will thank you. To top things off, their wine selection is excellent. I highly recommend this place for those looking for a quick bite or a nice sit-down dining experience to catch up with old friends.
(4)Andrew K.
Really good Thai. Really nice service. Really cool place to chill for a while. Really delicious food. Really great 2 for 1 bottles of wine on Mondays. Sawatdee krap!
(5)Valerie D.
Ate here on NYE and had no trouble getting a table. Nice staff and tasty food! The atmosphere was classy and prices are as expected. I would eat here again! My only complaint is that is was noisy and there is only 1 bathroom.
(4)KA K.
Ordered through Grubhub and when I received the order I was missing an item. I can forgive that, because I understand that it happens. What was really frustrating was the fact that I was questioned several times if I was sure it wasn't in there. Finally, after they begrudgingly accepted that I wasn't lying-- they told me it would take over an hour to get it redelivered. I think a business would want to quickly rectify a mistake like this to keep a customer happy. The manager was very obviously trying to force me to accept a refund on my items. The icing on the cake was when he hung up on me! I wasn't cussing or yelling. Just expressing my disappointment that my dinner for two was now not enough for a meal. I didn't even get a refund from them in the end. Just a "credit" on my account for future orders, which why would I after they had such awful customer service after the screwed up? Luckily, grubhub called me after they found out about the issue and gave me credit to use in the future. The thing is the food was good! One of the better Thai delivery places I have tried, but why order from a place that treats you like shit when there are so many other great places to eat in the city?
(2)Dave N.
We came here on a Tuesday night for dinner and it was packed, but we were still able to get a table right way. I like the minimalist decor, and also the comfy chairs. Why do so many restaurants go for modern-looking chairs that are painful to sit on? Luckily Krua didn't make that mistake. Service was fast and attentive. I had the massaman chicken curry, which was really hot and tasty. Total price for curry, rice, beer and tax was $16. That seemed cheap, but I didn't ask questions. You better keep quiet too. Don't mess this up for us, got it? Downsides: - The bathroom is both larger and better-decorated than my apartment. That was depressing. - I can't pronounce the street, Guerrero. I always end up with too few or too many syllables. Guero. Grurrerro. Grurererrro. Damn. So I tell people it's at 16th and Dolores.
(5)Ceasar B.
Very decent Thai food. Nothing hugely special, but a very good option for a cheap lunch.
(3)Charlie L.
A mix of authentic thai and modern at this great little restaurant. The staples are there - Curry, Papaya salad, Tom Yum, Larb But also something different if you're willing to try - Crispy Pad Thai, Crispy Papaya Salad, Deep fried Ice Cream. I personally love the 3 Seasons Fish. Deep fried fillets in a tangy sauce with crispy basil leaves on top. Yum! The place is sleek and cozy. Sorry, there are no purple walls here. All the wines on the menu are great too. Decently priced (no food items are over $15) and cute staff. This is my new usual thai place to go to now.
(5)Caitlin H.
Yah! Good Thai in the Mission! This place is great! I loved the Chicken Skewers with Peanut Sauce, and the Red Curry. I wanted to order a second round of Peanut Sauce (yes, just the sauce, to be a condiment on my spoon/finger) Prices are reasonable, and portions are ample, though I could have gone for a touch more rice, and a touch more sauce in my curry. All in all, I will definitely be back because this place has great ambiance and good food at a decent price. Our total meal for 2 entrees and a shared appetizer (with no drinks) was $31.
(4)JIBBY B.
WOW. Don't double guess coming here, GET HERE NOW! The place is newly remodeled and gorgeous inside. Classy but not too upscale. Music isn't too loud, waiters are very kind and very fast with their service. Food = AMAZING! Sauteed meals (chicken added) are to die for!! Prices are completely reasonable! Great wine selection that pair well with Thai food. Tha bathroom was super cute and very clean (they even had double-ply toilet paper)! LOL. This is an amazing place, with amazing food. Never too crowded. Brand new and WORTH checking out. Pretty sure tis will be a daily stop for me! Great addition to the Mission District! I love Krua Thai!

Came for lunch one "Indian Summer" Friday. This place was definitely a treat that I'd return to. Food: Lunch special with Soup, Spring Rolls and Tofu. I was amazed that everything was vegetarian. The Spring Rolls were tasty, fresh and not overly greasy. The soup had a rich mushroom flavor which even the lady thought had meat til we asked. The tofu was aromatic Thai spices, while not being overbearing. The tofu was a bit too chewy and the entree portion could be bigger, but otherwise good. Service: EXCELLENT. Both waiters seated and served us w/ the heat in mind, making sure we were seated under a fan and always keeping our ice water glasses full. They were beyond attentive, helpful and funny. I liked how well they anticipated our needs and even still kept giving us ice water after we paid and were just hanging out (vs. Many places that stop doing anything for you once you've paid up). Ambiance: Nice, contemporary, feels like a lounge environment (without sofas). To get a 4 from both foodies (incl one who works in upper scale food service), this is definitely a place to check out.
(4)Glaciala A.
I really really liked Krua. I had a crispy chicken dish which was pretty excellent, the seasoning was great. The only negative that I experiences was that the service was as bit slow at times and a bit inattentive to the beverages/water being filled up. However, I'd go back.
(4)Michelle B.
First time here and I have no complaints at all. Decor was great....clean! Service was great...fast! Food was fabulous! Talk about HUGE portions for lunch...great value.I don't think I ate for the rest of the day. One very satisfied customer. It just might be my new Thai spot!
(5)Jeremy R.
OH MY NOM! This place was FANTASTIC. The whole time my party and I were sitting in our stylish window booth enjoying fabulous decor and tasteful entrees people walking by were staring; and with good reason. The inside of the place is tasteful; nothing over the top. One might expect loud lounge music but the alternative jams and the simplicity of the restaurant allowed you to simply focus on the most important thing, the food. I enjoyed the crispy basil chicken while my two other friends enjoy a beef and chicken plates. My food was great, portioned perfectly, with just enough sauce to keep everything exploding with flavor without soggy fried grossness occurring after a few minutes. I ate everything; every last piece. The jasmine rice was cooked perfectly; no old rice here. I almost forgot, fabulous fried tofu and lip smacking dipping sauce was the perfect way to start the meal. Surprisingly light and not overwhelming to the taste-buds before the main course came. The staff was courteous and not overbearing. Pleasant. Just like the atmosphere in the place. Krua doesn't have to try hard to fit in the mission food scene; it's the perfect addition to the growing area.
(5)Kori M.
This is your typical Americanized-Thai food: toned down spice levels, and nothing too abnormal on the menu. Everything I tried was good, but nothing made it any different from the dozens of other Thai joints in the area. Service was good. The staff was very attentive, and friendly. Ambiance was very chic, and open. While it was certainly a pleasant dining experience, Krua Thai is not going in my list of favorites.
(3)Fred F.
Great addition to the mission district's culinary archipelago. Mission has been lacking of homey, simple thai food and Krua Thai addressed that. I was privileged enough to be invited to the soft opening and to taste the assortment of food before its grand opening on 9/9/11. Solid, authentic food with good amount of spice, nice ambiance for dates or good old gossiping time with your buddies. Can't wait to return to Krua Thai.
(5)Jordan F.
Ambiance - The atmosphere made me feel uncomfortable. There were security cameras pointed at the tables like we were going to steal their plates. The art were just pictures haphazardly pasted on large tiles then put on the wall. Food- It was okay. My friend ordered the peppered duck, but it was mostly vegetables. I had one of their specials that sounded great, ("mellow yellow" maybe) but was really just a yellow curry and even though I ordered it spicy, it wasn't hot enough. We also ordered the crispy basil chicken which was in a pretty tasty sauce. The best part were the veggies on this dish. They really captured the basil flavor. The chicken pieces did not and became soggy very quickly. One friend ordered a shrimp stir fry and the waiter kept taking away the plate she was using to discard the tails. So, we had to keep asking for more plates over and over. Pretty good wine. I was looking for a happy hour menu, but only saw the small happy hour sign from outside as we were leaving. 2 for 1 on wine. If we had know, we would have grabbed a few glasses. Overall, it was an awkward experience that i would not subject myself to again.
(2)Bill H.
Excellent food. Excellent ambiance. Good price. Portions could be slightly larger, but I'll deal with it.
(4)Brian S.
Food is pretty typical for Thai. I think the price was a little high, but the service was great and the location if even better for us in the neighborhood. The Thai Ice Tea is really good, but don't go on a hot day because most of the restaurants on 25th don't have AC.
(3)Tan N.
wow. crispy fish with sweet and sour is amazing. crispy pad thai is great place is really affordable.... I order from here 3x a week!
(4)Ryan G.
Decided to check this out on a scoutmob. The soups are fantastic and we LOVED the colored duck. Have been back since then and always have been very pleased.
(4)Davey G.
Man, I was seriously hoping this was a far-off outpost of the Krua Thai in North Hollywood with their stellar pad thai. Turns out Krua is just a popular name. Like others have already mentioned, it's toned down Thai, so the flavors will be familiar, but not intense. The dishes are solid and the atmosphere is a little upscale, so it would be a nice "quiet night out" type of place. I'm not sure why they have sangria, but it's delicious. My go-to dishes, green papaya salad and pad thai, are both done well, but there's really no heat to them at all. I would've appreciated at least a mild level of chiles. The cashew nut pork was really sweet and somewhat lacking in the cashew department. My favorite dish of the night was the crispy chicken with basil. It is out of this world! Super crispy and SPICY, for sure. The heat builds up ever so slowly and then lingers in the back of your throat, which is the way I enjoy taking my heat. None of that insane burning on the tongue. So while it's not related to my favorite Thai place, the atmosphere was chill, the sangria was tasty and the dishes were all solid. Plus, they offered a discount through one of those phone app things. $avings!
(3)Andy A.
If you want to wonder where your server is even though there are only 4 tables full, come here. Seriously though, came here on a Saturday night with half the place full and plenty of wait staff to go around, but couldn't get an order in for 15 minutes. Are we invisible? Maybe they think we are in line for the bathroom? Oh yea, and don't order the summer rolls. Why? Because they may be out of shrimp and they won't tell you until they bring it out and the chef has subbed tofu instead. Comon! This is basic food and beverage. Disappointed.
(1)Pam M.
Maybe I'm not trendy enough to eat here and really enjoy it? I'm not sure what the issue is . . . I just wasn't a big fan. Our server was nice enough, the menu was clear, the food was average. And I was happy to be using a Scoutmob discount. My dining companion and I shared the green papaya salad, red curry with shrimp, and drunken noodles with tofu. Everything tasted fine, and I appreciated their little spiciness stars on the menu. Nothing particularly excited me, or called out, "Eat more of me! You want seconds!" Also, maybe I'm just getting older and crankier, but I almost had to yell in order for my dining companion to hear me. Ol' granny-pants likes someplace a bit quieter for her Thai food dinner. I'll leave Krua Thai to the young whippersnappers with sharper eardrums.
(3)Melissa N.
Thank goodness this place changed! If anyone remembers the old restaurant that was in this place what an UPGRADE!!! I agree that sometimes the service is a little slow and you do question if they can see you, but overall they are so very friendly and it seems you can't go wrong on the dish you chose. I've been here multiple times for dine in and take out and everything I've had/tried is always great.
(4)Karl N.
Fabulous "crispy pad thai" ($7.95). Seaweed salad ($5.50) was good, but a little skimpy (half iceberg lettuce) - granted, it was half the price of other salads.. Great looking interior - agreed that it's nicer looking than most of the area. Good service. Will return soon.
(4)David S.
Let's just say that I'm not good at reviewing places, so I hardly do it. But on those rare instances where I fall in love, I have to say something. Krua Thai is great. I'm such a pansy when it comes to spicy food, but all you have to do is ask, and they will take care of you. I'm not a huge dressing fan, so they let me have my salad with the sweet dipping sauce over it instead. Can you say yummy? I can. Lunch specials are a great deal, and the rest of the menu is reasonably priced as well. I know I can't comment on the whole menu, as there are just some items I am such a pansy at, I probably won't eat it. But I can say I love the Crispy Chicken. Do I dare say it's even better than a similar dish at Osha Thai? Ok, I will. The chicken is actually crispy. Go figure :) The wait staf is so attentive. And I can't say enough about the owners.
(5)Cindy L.
4 stars because of the price! By checking in on yelp, you get $3 off the $10 set lunches which include an appetizer, soup, rice, and entree in a bento box. Usually these lunch specials are only applicable on week days, but at Krua Thai it is for all days of the week!! I love ordering eggplant basil at Thai restaurants...I never thought they could mess up eggplant. I was wrong since my eggplants were undercooked...it just didn't taste right. I thought their tom yum soup was good and crispy vegetarian spring rolls and samosas were good as well. I would come back if I want to spend less than $10 for lunch.
(4)Nicole O.
So glad this place finally opened! I went and we were the only diners so we had excellent service. The portions were smaller than I had expected, but we still had leftovers. The papaya salad with prawns was super tasty but they prawns were more shrimp-like. I LOVED that they had brown rice. This was very much appreciated. My friend has some complicated modifications to her dish and they whipped 'em out perfectly. I'm glad this place it open. I'm looking forward to going back.
(4)Bryan H.
Still a great venue, but an update! Just noticed today that Krua Thai has a deal going on via the iPhone/Smartphone App: Scoutmob. You can get 50% off by your order (or $15 maximum discount), simply by showing them the deal (no purchase necessary)! Thought everyone out there might find this appealing! Go now!
(5)P L.
Went there while we were in town on a friend's recommendation. It was amazing!! We have 4-5 Thai places where we live down south and this beat them all. Tom Kha was so creamy. Drunken Noodles was amazing. Everything so flavorful and perfect spice. Jack was also so friendly and gracious to us.
(5)Michelle R.
As far as Thai food goes, this place definitely ranks among the best I've had. Trust me, I've had a lot. Went there to use a scoutmob deal and was not disappointed. Green curry was nice and spicy, had lots of veggies and was a nice consistency over rice. My boyfriend had the Pad C U (pad see yew) which was very flavorful and packed with Chinese broccoli and shrimp. We normally order the same dishes wherever we go and this was definitely top 3. Service was nice ad it seemed like they were happy to have business. This was surprising because the place had nothing wrong with it as far as I could tell.

Fat Friday continues with the Groupon Now $1 Lunch deals.. Krua Thai was the third stop on this gastronomic feast.. The Groupon deal was $1 for $10 worth of food. Ordered the $10 lunch special and a drink. I usually just stick to good ol' water, but I felt bad about getting a completely free deal since it was a sit down restaurant, so also ordered a Thai iced tea which was perfectly sweetened. Whenever I order thai tea at other restaurants, I usually have to add almost half a glass of water to make it bearable to drink, but this one was just right. I settled on the yellow chicken curry which had pineapple, sweet potato, red bell peppers and peanuts. Lunch specials are served with the house soup, steamed rice , egg rolls and a salad. The salad was basic and would have preferred maybe a peanut dressing, egg rolls were minimally filled with cabbage and carrots, so it was mostly just wrapper. Despite that, the curry made up for the less than stellar accompaniments. Good combination of the creamy coconut milk, heat and sweetness. I usually don't eat white rice, but the sauce was so good I could have easily requested for another bowl of rice, but I didn't. Thank goodness the portions were a little on the small size because there were still several more food stops to go. I think it was the decor more so than the food that I fell in love with! So clean, modern, simple and elegant. I could see myself hanging out here more often. I loved the neutral colors; taupe grey walls, with white and black accents. Black leather diamond quilted chairs, bay window seating with pillows, white framed artwork, propeller like ceiling fans and add the homemade touch with a huge glass canister of freshly made red sangria sitting on the counter. Could I just transport this place over to my living room? I usually go to Osha to get my Thai food fix, but this was a nice change of pace. Pleasant surprise from the last $1 Groupon lunch deal which took me on a trek to find a burrito place in the Mission, which ended up to be behind some car wash... yeah, pretty ghetto but at least the food was good.. Anyways, I digress.. The waiters were pretty friendly and food was brought out quickly. Definitely some place cool and casual that I would love to hang out and try again.
(4)Allison H.
Great date spot. We loved using our Scout Mob here. Lacks a little bit of personality, but we for a solid meal nonetheless.
(4)Alton Y.
Place looks nice and classy, service was good - one man show @2:30 in the afternoon on a weekday, but he did pretty well. Food however, I would say isn't the best. I guess the lunch @$10 isn't bad for what you're getting, but my chicken was extremely dry. I ended up not eating the chicken, but ate everything else.
(3)Johnny W.
I enjoyed one of the best lunches I've had in a long time at Krua Thai. The service was impeccable and the food was tasty and creatively presented. The dinner menu looked a bit pricey, but for lunch, they offer appetizer/soup/salad/entree for $10. Definitely recommend.
(5)Nicole S.
Had dinner here awhile back. Very cute place and very nice staff. Good is tasty and pretty to look at. Would def go back. It is in a good location but not crowded.
(4)Courtney S.
Their food is great, but sadly their delivery service is HORRIBLE. Earlier last week I ordered delivery through Seamless web. Krua Thai took over 20 minutes to acknowledge that they received the order. It was never delivered, and the restaurant wasn't answering it's phone. Seamless web refunded my money. Tonight I decided to give Krua a second chance. But I've been waiting for OVER AN HOUR for my food. I just called and they told me that they're slammed with orders tonight and that my food hasn't been made yet. At best it will be another 20 minutes. I've already been waiting for 75 min. This is unacceptable. If they can't keep up with online orders, maybe they shouldn't be on Seamless Web.
(2)Elizabeth G.
I live very close to this place and once it opened I figured it was worth trying... First, the space is great. They really did an awesome job turning that space into a nice looking restaurant. When you go inside it feels very spacious, trendy and cool... not something that many Thai restaurants can accomplish. I got take-out since I had some work to finish so I think my rating might be a bit higher had I eaten in the restaurant. We got the sampler appetizer which was really good. The spring rolls are just what I hoped they would be and the skewers were delicious too. Pad thai and pineapple fried rice - both pretty good! I haven't tried many other Thai places around here, but we were pleased with both entrees. The prices are pretty standard. Maybe $1-$2 more than I'd like to pay, but not too bad given the service is good and it's so convenient.

"A-OK" is right - for the lunch special I had, at least. Had the $10 lunch special ($7 if you check in on Yelp!), so take this with a grain of salt, since the restaurant might not bring their A-game to the cheaper lunch. Got the spicy basil tofu, egg rolls. Pros: - super quiet when I was there, nice to not have a hectic ambiance for a change - pretty good value, especially considering the Valencia location and nice decor, appropriate amount of food for lunch - very clean, bright, upscale decor without crazy prices to match (slight different take on the last point) Cons: - the soup had no distinguishing taste - it was just some run-of-the-mill stuff with scallions - egg rolls were similarly meh - service was average if slightly inattentive, mostly ignored us and didn't check on us, and it wasn't even busy...we were one of two tables in the entire place The actual entree was good, but not anything above any other Thai restaurant I've been to in SF, comparable to Thai House Express or Osha. I'd come back for the relatively affordable lunch and relaxed ambiance if I were in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way to get here, especially given how many other options are within a 5 min walk radius.

Great service, great food, at a great price!

I placed an order through EAT24 and the delivery was pretty quick. I ordered crab meat fried rice, summer rolls, chicken wing and roti!!!! I decided to try this place out due to the reviews and pictures. The wings are the BOMB.COM, they are different from any other Thai restaurants that I tried, it's super good and yummy!! The crab meat fried rice was perfect and thank you for not putting carrots and peas. The rolls were good and glad they have me extra peanut sauce. The roti was sooooo good and sooooo happy that the sweet creme sauce was not drizzed on them, but put on the side. I will order from this place again in the future.

This place serves up delicious thai food that doesn't break the bank. Decent wine selection but its the food that is the winner here. My fav's are the krua fried rice and pad thai, yum! And if your in a rush you can pre order your dish on food24

Bland and bland with a side of bland. At least they have lunch specials where you can get a discount on bland.

Yum! Cheap/danky thai food, what's not to love?! I got the classic pad thai with shrimp and my boyfriend ordered the crispy pad thai with chicken. I absolutely loved my pad thai--fresh, saucy and huge portions. He wasn't as thrilled with the crispy, sometimes risks don't pay off. If you're getting the pad here, I highly suggest the original. Don't fix something if it's not broken, yaddamean?!

With so many knock-offs in the city, Osha Thai should just rip off the old Dr. Pepper jingle for their own marketing purposes..."I'm an Osha! You're an Osha! Wouldn't you like to be an Osha, too? Be an Osha. Eat at an Osha!" Because not only are there numerous Osha Thais in operation downtown but a lot of Osha Thai wannabes that try hard for the same cosmopolitan Bangkok-meets-West Elm effect (photo: bit.ly/TRXLjx ). And you can add one more to the list, this trendy spot on 16th right off Guerrero offering a middling execution of the standard dishes. Jamie W. and I tried it when we noticed that Ramen Izakaya Goku was full up one evening. It was quiet in there, no more than two other tables were occupied in a rather large space for the Mission. The menu listed several options including a Mix and Match section where you make your choice of meat (or non-meat) and decide what kind of preparation you want and with what side dish. Rice comes with it no matter what you order. I went to town and ordered the premium-priced $14 Duck prepared as a Cashew Nuts Platter with onions, mushrooms and carrots in that mystery "brown sauce" that apparently infiltrates the entire Asian continent (photo: bit.ly/1ueV9qS ). It would have been fine if they didn't forget my nuts. No, I didn't forget my nuts. THEY forgot my nuts...for a change. Jamie decided to mitigate the risk by ordering his stand-by, the $9 Drunken Noodles with Chicken (photo: bit.ly/1v9u7nd ). Even though the execution was predictable, he at least knew what he was getting. And he got his chicken. As a shared side, we tried the $7.50 Cream Cheese Taffies, a dessert that lost its way to the menu and became an appetizer. They were deep-fried won tons stuffed with cream cheese with a bit of crab meat and onion accompanied by a sweet and sour dipping sauce (photo: bit.ly/1sbkRkz ). They were odd confections that could have been more savory to sync up with the rest of the meal. Anyway, kudos to the cleanest restroom in all of the Mission. Jamie and I were both impressed with the spa-like ambiance in there. FOOD - 3 stars...cream cheese and no nuts AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...cheers for the restroom...otherwise, wouldn't you like to be an Osha, too? SERVICE - 3 stars...they are a bit off here TOTAL - 3 stars...another Osha wannabe

Less than a mile away but over an hour for delivery? BUMMER "Pad C U"? 2 GREASY Garlic and Black Pepper Sauteed with Chicken? OVERCOOKED BLANDNESS Summer Rolls? JUST FINE The search for go-to Thai delivery in SF? CONTINUES...

We came in here last week while visiting family and friends for a late Sunday dinner. I'm not one for Thai but I kept an open mind and found some good stuff on the menu to try. We sat for a few minutes and finally got up to grab our our menus. The guy looked a little embarrassed that he forgot to give us them. Other than that service was good (the place was almost empty). We started with chicken skewers and the Summer Rolls with tofu. The peanut sauce with the Summer Rolls was SO good, we all liked it better than the sauce with the skewers. I had the Drunken Noodles with tofu and veggies mild and my husband had the Massaman super spicy. I didn't really care for the tofu, it was pretty bland but the noodles and vegetables themselves were delicious! I wouldn't have minded a bit more broccoli (only two big stalks were in there) but it was a big meal and I really enjoyed it. Husband said his was delicious as well. There were some other Drunken Noodle eaters in our party (vegan style) and I don't remember what our other friend had. We all enjoyed and left happy though! All around a good experience and a nice looking spot.

I'm a Thai food snob. Big time. My SD, LA, and SF friends come to me when asking where to go, and what to order. Simple as that. This has been my favorite Thai place in the Bay Area thus far. Even better than Lers Ros, in my opinion, which is upheld by many a foodie as the preeminent Thai food location in Northern California. I think the Krua Thai bests it. I had the tom kha gai soup, followed by the pad see ew with beef. Both were excellent. Flavors, temperatures, spice-level, all spot-on. I tried a few of my friends' dishes and every one of them was simply a bullseye. It has a nice aesthetic, it's located close to my apartment in the city, the prices are reasonable, the staff are friendly, and every dish was just perfection. Word of warning to my white bretheren: When you say "spicy", you better damn well mean it. They don't adapt to a midwestern sensibility. You remember that line in Tombstone... "You called down the thunder? Well, NOW. YOU. GOT IT!" It's a lot like that.

I walk past this place all the time and was really excited to try it! The service is super excellent (very attentive guys, and all very cute ;)), but the eggplant stir-fry I ordered barely had any eggplant in it and just generally seemed uninspired. Definitely not a great value, considering the end product. I wish I thought more highly of the food, given the service, but I really can't say there's anything even remotely spectacular about what you'd be getting here.

I went here last night for my 24th birthday! And I absolutely was amazed that they served my party of 11 people with ease! The waiter was super friendly and patient. And the busser never let us want for anything. It was a cute little setting for my birthday. The food was sooo good! I had the colored duck, and it was delicious and very flavorful. Thank you Krua Thai for making my birthday wonderful!

Great for take out! Our #1 Thai in the area.

If you love Thai food, come here! I have lived in San Francisco my entire life and there are only a handful of good Thai restaurants - this is in my top 3! I randomly stumbled upon this place via open table and am so happy that I did! The first time I came here, my mom and I ordered their papaya salad, drunken noodles and a veggie sriracha dish. Every single bite that we had, we loved. Everything was full of amazing AND authentic flavor. All of the ingredients were very fresh and I loved how the vegetables weren't overcooked - there was still a slight crunch in every bite. I highly recommend ordering those items, especially the papaya salad - the best papaya salad I have tasted in SF (and that's a bold statement)! The second time I came here was with my best friend for lunch. We both checked in on yelp and our meal was $7, instead of $10. Their lunch special is incredible - it comes with soup, an appetizer and a main dish. We had their tom yum (SO good, I wanted to order a whole bowl), grab and cheese wonton (I forget the actual name that this place calls it) and their green / pumpkin curry. I had the green curry with tofu/veggies and loved every bite of it. I recommend ordering their brown rice (extra $1). Service is excellent. Jack has been our waiter the past two times and he is so nice and knowledgeable. Always has a smile on his face and makes the dining experience at this place that much better! Whenever I would ask for a recommendation, he was always honest. I'm the type of person that always needs a lot of things (i.e. spicy sauces, extra napkins, etc.) and Jack was very accommodating. I can't wait to be back and try other items on the menu!

I'm really surprised this place doesn't have better reviews. They have delicious food, a nice ambience in a trendy location, great service, and moreover you usually don't have to wait in the line to go there. I usually get the drunken noodles, which are delicious and just a little bit spicy at their baseline level. However, I've tried a number of the curries which are also delicious. Every time I've been, the food is really good. Plus, everyone at the restaurant is really nice and it's a laid-back place. Have a drink or some sangria, chill by the window, and watch people walk down 16th St. while you get some delicious Thai food. What's not to like?
(5)Emily A.
I had the Yum Ocean. It might be authentic, but the taste was waay too strongly sour, spicy and funky (think lots of raw onions with drenched in lime juice, too many chilis, and too much fish sauce) to be palatable. It needed the brown rice which I ordered alongside it, but that made it a $15 meal. It was one of the worst $15 meals I've ever paid for. The shrimp and scallop were quite nice, but the squid was over-cooked.
(2)Laurent L.
Good thai food. It's a little on the lighter side, which is a nice change of pace from some other places that serve greasy/heavier thai food.
(4)Henry C.
Was in the mission and had to find food fast luckily we all wanted Thai food and we came upon this place. The fried rice with pork was amazing and was a good enough portion size for the price you pay. The price of the food itself is not bad at all.

Just a few blocks away from BART's 16th Street station, Krua Thai is near a hub of restaurants that all offer different cuisines. It has an interesting modern atmosphere to it and there's tons of light that comes through the open windows. The staff were friendly and attentive. A waiter suggested we start off with the Cream Cheese Taffies, which are priced at a pretty steep price of $7.50. As promised, though, it was a unique and delicious appetizer that was perfect to start off the meal. The crispy won ton taffies are filled with rich cream cheese, crab meat, and green onions. It only comes with a small portion of five: a good thing because it's a pretty rich and heavy appetizer, but a bad thing considering the price of them. I then chose to get the Drunk Noodles, which is one of their signature entree items. To be quite honest, I couldn't tell the difference between their noodles and chow fun. The noodles and accompanying vegetables weren't well-cooked and it made a struggle to finish the plate. I tried my friend's Pad Thai and was disappointed by how they cooked a signature dish like that. We also had the Thai iced tea, which was good but a little overly sweet. We ended the night with a classic Thai dessert, sticky rice and mango. The mango was very sweet and tasty, but the sticky rice was coated in a sauce that seemed like condensed milk. It added an odd taste and texture to the rice so we ended up eating more of the mangoes than we did the rice. Overall, the atmosphere of the restaurant is nice. If you're looking for authentic Thai food though, you should try looking somewhere else.

Really enjoyed this restaurant. Good food and environment. Fantastic lunch speciall!! Don't get why this restaurant isn't rated higher.
(5)Saewah K.
I came here for the lunch special which consists of a choice of appetizer, house salad, soup, and a smaller entree for just $10. That's a lot of food for a small amount of money! I got the egg rolls, salad, soup, and the hot red curry. The curry came out with the right amount of creamy and sweet- super delicious. My boyfriend got the Thai ice tea, and from that one sip I had, it tastes pretty good. The only complaint I had would be that I didn't get to finish my food because I got full too quickly! I'm going to go back, for sure.
(5)James S.
I got back from Thailand not too long ago and was looking for something to satisfy my Thai cravings, and decided to give this place a try (instead of my normal Thai spot Lers Ros). The food was pretty good with good authentic flavors. I wanted Laab,Tom Yum soup with chicken, and some basil pork, which while not on the menu, the manager was more than happy to make it happen. My complaint about the place is that the service staff is still kinda new and don't have much knowledge about thai dishes and what they should look like. They brought out some sticky rice that was either dessert sticky rice or half cooked. Wasn't quite sure.. On the plus side, as soon as I mentioned something, it was fixed pretty fast with no questions. I think this place has great potential and I will be back soon. Will update review when I have more..

A modern mime has decorated his abode. The lines, the edges, and margins unite in blade-like fashion. Soft grays, bold blacks, and opaque whites govern the walls. The porcelain: square, rectangular. No time for circles. Can I have this plate? The art-of-the-slate. Bay windows for a spectator show. Sangria and Thai Iced Tea. A spectrum of unknown. Cashew Nuts Platter Sauteed with Chicken, Crispy Chicken with Basil, Krua's Zesty Beef, Mango with Sweet Sticky Rice. The food is tantalizing. Sweet sauces seep between the meats, but this comes with bias while on keto. Cashew Nuts Platter takes the show this time. The Mango with Sweet Sticky Rice, perfect. Ask for Jack.

Went from average to below average. The service was super slow and the food took way too long to come out. They took a while to take our order then forever to even bring water. We had picked up pastries for dessert and ended up eating those because we could no longer wait. Our eggplant dish also came out undercooked and when we told the server, he had an attitude about it but eventually took it back. It had taken so long at this point that we told him to just cancel it, but he literally would not let us. We bit our tongues and asked him to box it then into two separate boxes so we could both take it home. He didn't, just one box and the eggplant was still undercooked when I had it the next day. The service was just so rude that I think I'll find it hard to give them another chance.

Went to a Javascript Meetup event and they had food from this restaurant. I had pad see ew, chicken, beef, crispy chicken, etc. It was nice to have Thai food at a techie event.
(4)Varun V.
Get the crispy pad thai. Unique dish - haven't had anything like it in any place before. Pretty inside, excellent service and a main course for $11. I will be back.
(5)Jack H.
This restaurant is ok.. The decor is nice and simple. The sole waiter is very active around the restaurant and constantly checks in on you. I have some issues with the food however. The pad Thai is way too sweet, it should be balanced between salty, sweet, sour, and spicy but I only get notes of sweet and sour. The fried papaya salad is pretty good. You need to eat it as soon as it gets to your table as it will get too soggy from the sauce. Average restaurant, I would only prefer this for a fast lunch.
(3)Tucker K.
The curry was excellent, service was top notch, and atmosphere was prefect for a dinner with old friends. Reasonably priced and large portions.
(4)Jake J.
We ordered a beef and a chicken dish as well as chicken pad Thai and it was all phenomenal. I was pleasantly surprised. Thai food (in my opinion) can sometimes lack flavor that it tries to make up for by being spicy. All three dishes we ordered were spicy but also had complicated and bold tastes. Definitely coming here again.
(5)Taye N.
Tried dishes Kamikaze not great. Vegs under cook Salmon. Nothing special Duck average Crispy pad thai good Sea splash.. too much bamboo favor in curry.. dont like. 2.5 star for food 3 star service. Doesn't Remember who order what. 4 star for decoration and nice bathroom.

I've always been a fan of Tom Kha soup. What's not to love about coconut based dishes. But Kura has the flavor that takes the yummy soup to another level. I had the Tom Kha with prawns, and not only was it packed with flavor but clearly Kura pays diligence to using fresh ingredients. And this goes for the entire meal. It's always such a disappointment to find a nice looking restaurant demeaning their food with frozen seafood ingredients. So my tummy was happy to find all the fresh seafood at Kura. We also tried the Blue Kamikaze and the mild yellow curry. Thanks for the meal.
(4)Melody K.
Krua Thai is an awesome spot that gives you free wine on Wednesdays! I'm always confused why there aren't more people here but all the better for me :) I also drop by here whenever I need a place that isn't too crazy crowded in the Mission.
(5)Brian W.
I love this place :) If you're looking for a restaurant in the Mission that is NOT crowded, this is the place to go! The environment is super chill and I just sit here for hours and chat with my friends :) Also there's free wine on Wednesday :)
(5)John H.
Nice Thai place in the heart of the "cool" part of the Mission. For a more authentic "old-style neighborhood, try a stroll down the 18th St. corridor starting at Mission and going south ... if you have time, hang a right on Balmy St. (alley) and check out the cool murals. Scoutmob app offers a half-off deal here if you'd like to save some cabbage.
(4)J. L.
Why does Krua get only 3.5 stars? No, no. This place deserves 5. I liked everything about Krua; in fact, it is currently my favorite spot for Thai food and I can't wait to go back. Best lemongrass chicken I've had in a long while - please don't ever take it off the menu.
(5)Ravi S.
Tepid, mild Thai food. I came here for dinner last Friday with one of my friends. It was rainy and cold outside, and I was looking forward to warming up with some amazing Thai food. Our server was very attentive; maybe even too attentive. There weren't very many customers in the restaurant when we were there, so he came to take our orders within two minutes of our arrival. We weren't ready, so we asked him to come back later. Until we looked over and signaled to him ten minutes later, he was waiting patiently behind us just staring at us. Perhaps he could have gone into the kitchen for a while instead of standing there looking at us. To eat, I had the Hot Red Curry with chicken. The food was brought out to us really quickly. What was surprising was that the food was not hot (in temperature or in spice). How could the food be lukewarm? It's not like it was sitting sitting out for thirty minutes or something. If they are cooking the food fresh, it just does not seem possible that the food could cool down to that temperature in such a short amount of time. It's really suspicious. While the curry was neither hot nor spicy, it did have a nice flavor profile. The curry comes with a good variety of fresh vegetables (peas, carrots, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, bell peppers, and basil leaves) too. I don't think I would come here again for dinner. Maybe if I lived in the area, I might order to-go and heat up the curry at home over the stove and add some spices.
(3)Lacy R.
The SMALLEST portions I've ever experienced. Ordered in for the night, delivery was fast, and they were very nice. Ordered Crab Wontons- 6 included...they were the size of large tootsie rolls. Bowl of soup- came in a "large cup of soup" container. Pad Thai- tiny portion as well. There wasn't much seasoning on anything. Everything was bland and colorless. For the price, not satisfied with the quantity or quality received. There are so many great Thai places in the city, no need to waste your time here. Definitely won't be ordering from here again. Huge disappointment.
(2)Dan O.
I never write reviews, but this place is awesome for the price! $10 lunch special w salad, soup. entree, and rice! I am just back from Thailand, and this place has this flavors, just right, and fresh ingredients too.
(5)Charlie B.
The manager here has the customer service skills of a cat: self absorbed, aloof, and claws ready. Or like the Seinfeld soup nazi, without the good food. Girlfriend and I ordered food to go, took it home 20 min away, and discovered it was not good despite positive yelp reviews. It's like going to see that movie you've been wanting to see and being disappointed when you actually see it. So we called back and said we weren't happy. The man on phone asked us to bring the food back. But we were already home so we asked for a credit. Up to this point, the conversation was fine. But this is where things take a turn for the crazy. The man on phone said we were "one of those customers," that tries to just get free food. We were flabbergasted - who makes a presumption like that and voices it to a customer? We said that was rude, we are customers voicing our concern with the food. We wanted to give the restaurant another shot. As we said this, the man on phone started talking over us. So we asked for his name and to speak with his manager. The man wouldn't give us his name, and hung up on us. Seriously? We then decided to go back to the restaurant and complain to the manager about the man on the phone, just about principle at this point. We get to the restaurant, see the man who answers the phone, and find he IS the manager. We told him again why we were dissatisfied with the food, and we didn't appreciate how he insulted us and hung up. He didn't apologize for his food or his behavior. He claimed he hung up because he had a lot of other calls. Pretty sure you don't ever hang up on a customer. He said he could refund us if we leave his restaurant. So we said ok, we didn't like his food anyway. He said the food is the way it is, and kept talking. One of his employees touched him on the chest, like "stop", and he stormed off. The employee had to step in and process the refund, and apologized the food wasn't what we expected, and apologized for the inconvenience. Overall the big picture is this: customers bring you money. It's cheaper to keep a customer than acquire one. And a pissed off customer tells way more people about their bad experience than happy customers: this one definitely is going to be a fun story to share. So why would you insult a customer, treat them rudely, and make no effort to keep them, especially on their first trip? Shockingly unprofessional - doesn't make sense. The manager should go back to being a house cat. Reow.
(1)Matt S.
Update: one night we were super lazy and so we actually came back to Krua. They had read our yelp review and knew who we were ahead of time since we always order the same thing. When we entered they were very apologetic. They literally gave us a whole container full of hot sauce without us asking (wayyy to much, but we appreciate the gesture). It's great to see buisness that listen to their customers and were happy to be coming here again regularly as we really love the food.
(4)Jesse F.
TL;DR decent flavors, spice level is inconsistent, overpriced for what it is. I ordered delivery scheduled for 7:30 so I'd have some time to get home, shower, and settle in. It showed up at 6:45 *just* as I was arriving at my apartment. I literally walked up behind the delivery guy at my door as he was about to call my phone. Not a good start. I'm fighting a cold and my usual go-to is spicy thai food, so I ordered a lot, hoping to get me through the weekend. The serving sizes were a little on the smaller side, but not unreasonable. I read reviews that spicy is *spicy* here, so I used a little bit of restraint, as I haven't had much spicy food recently and I'm out of practice. Here is a breakdown: Tom Yum (medium): not spicy at all, hardly any vegetables or meat, and the broth was bland & way too salty Wings ("spicy hot"): barely any spice, but overall quality and flavor were OK Drunken noodles ("spicy hot"): gross mushy noodles, but flavor and spice were good Cucumber Salad: meh, 'nuff said I'm not sure if eating in makes a big difference versus delivery, but the restaurant is far enough out of my way that delivery is really the main option. On to the next one...

Might be the best food I've ever had in my life! I can't even put into words how happy I am right now!
(5)Heather R.
Crispy Basil Chicken, highly recommended! Oooh and the desserts. All of them. The fried bananas and ice cream. The deep fried ice cream. Sadly other than the chicken, we haven't found anything else as good on the menu. The rest is good, but it's just okay.
(4)Alissa A.
I bet you your bathroom at home does not smell as nice as the one at Krua. Yes, I am reviewing a restaurant but I must say, the bathroom has a spa-esque vibe going on. Now, onto the food. Lots of options, most with the option of: vegetarian (all veg/tofu), seafood, chicken, beef/pork. Menu is easy to read (categorized by dish type: curries, noodles, soups) and easy to decipher spiciness. Recommended starters: Egg rolls and SHUMai (steamed) YUM Ocean Salad - healthy, light, protein centric share dish. Calamari/squid not the greatest - possibly smidge overcooked. Rarity: Most main dishes actually come with rice included! Most places seem to be charging extra these days. Mains are sized that you can finish a whole one (so if you were thinking you'd have leftovers, order an app) Price point makes it accessible to hit up Krua fairly regularly and not break the bank. Nothing extraordinary here but very reliable and a great option when scouting for Thai.
(4)Jody C.
Thai cuisine with a modern twist. My favorite is the fried papaya salad and the gold bags but there are so many other yummy dishes. The service is always fast and the staff are so nice and attentive. Wish I still lived in SF so I could go more often.
(4)Joey C.
all I can say is, it really wasn't very good. There are so many Thai Restaurants in the neighborhood. We thought We'd try this because there's a 1.5 hour wait at CHINO. We were open minded - in the end On a Scale of 1-5 Food: 2 - not very good at all. Price: 2 - pretty expensive for what it offered Service 5- great service, unfortunately, that doesn't help when the food is not good.

HMMM... THAI FOOD!!! (3.85 stars) Krua = Kitchen (google it!) One look at this place and my friends will say "THAT'S SUCH A PLACE YOU'D EAT AT." Yah-darn-skippy about that. However, nothing caught my eye on the menu until I read Krua CRISPY PAPAYA salad and CRISPY PAD THAI. Love places when they can get creative yet keep a dish in its naturalness. Since then I've had my eye to come here and then BAM there was a deal. You've been Scoutmob'ed and scored 50% off. *pictures are posted* - Food, yummy. very similar to osha but i think i like kura better - Prices, affordable (lunch) - Service, on-point. very into catering their customers. - Ambiance, simple chic and modernized FOOOOOD adventure!!!! Walking around the city on a beautiful Saturday on one of my solo journeys, decided to get up on my deals and make the best of it. The best time to use a deal is during lunch and decided to come here right when they open, 11:30AM to get my grub on. Not alot of people where there, unlike evenings. Small space but plenty of tables to sit at. Lovely decor and very clean. Seated by the window and was served like a queen. HEFFER-STYLE STATUS. KRUA CRISPY PAPAYA SALAD w/ PRAWNS ($8) - Crispy papaya topped with garlic, thai chili, tomatos, and peanuts in lime dressing. I love papaya salad but never had a crispy papaya salad. And i'm picky because some salads can have an overpowering dressing, but at Krua, they made it very good. CRISPY!!! that's a first. They deep fry the shreds of papaya but everything else is like a normal papaya sald. It came with 3 large prawns. The only annoying thing about eating the papaya salad was that each strand stuck to each other so when getting a bite, it was the entire thing and I had to use my fingers to pry a portion off and onto my fork. Besides that, it was yummy. The portion can be shared with another but since it was just me, it was large. Enough to pack 3/4 of it to take home. GINGER AND SCALLIONS w/ chicken and 2 taffies ($10) - W-O-R-T-H-Y!!!! soup, salad, appetizer, and main dish with rice. This is an item on the lunch menu. served with house soup, side salad, choice of 2 cripsy egg rolls or samosa or taffies, or shumai, and rice. Also choice of chicken, beef, pork or tofu & vegetables. Like usually, i went with chicken. You ask what are taffies? GET THEM. Taffies are like crab ragoon, they are crispy wontons filled with cream cheese, crab meat, and green onion, servered with sweet and sour sauce. My main dish was typical tasting, tasted like any other thai restaurant. But it was very fresh and delicious - maybe because I was there right when they opened and everything was just made fresh. SANGRIA ($6) - very delicious sangria. lots of fruits and the merlot was infused well, tasted like JUICE. Didn't have dessert, no room, but this was basically my dessert. My bill came out to $24 dollars even but with the 50% discount, it came up to $12/$13 after tax. Absolutely, I scored on this food adventure. Will I be back? YES. I'd love to come back and try the crispy pad thai. JABA APPROVED. Until the next review...

Great lunch specials. Actually pretty stunning value. Also a fan of their thai samosas (delicate and fried tasty bites). Their pumpkin curry is solid and I really like their roasted chili paste dish. Service is attentive and all-in-all tasty.
(4)Robert M.
Had delivery. Tom kha soup was bland and the chicken was very tough and dry. The pad c u was super bland. The red curry with chicken was a little better but chicken was dry and tough. I requested very spicy but it was barely hot. I won't be ordering from here again.

I am a bit surprised to see the lack of love for Krua. I've been a number of times and to me, it's always spot-on. I was there a couple of weeks ago with a group. We ordered up a whole table of greatness, floating the platters up and down, trying to take all that we wanted, without being a punk about it. You know how that goes. Trying to share with your friends, but really wanting to stop the plates that are your favorite, and shoveling it ALL onto your own plate. Or is that just me...?! Service was spot-on. Prices were reasonable. Everything was hella fresh. I dig the decor. It's not traditional....but it's not the trying-hard Osha Thai either. (I had Osha too, same week....also good, but not better than Krua!). KRUA is grand. Don't believe the haters. Go peep it yourself. For realz. Yum! Yum! Yum! I wish I could go NOW!

It was great dining here! Pad Thai was amazing. Would def recommend an come here again.

Updated review- Actually, this is my favorite Thai restaurant in the city! Delicious. Get the Sriracha Madness!! It's actually not that spicy and very flavorful.
(5)Siena R.
Delicious and flavorful Thai! Service was attentive, the ambiance had a clean, modern feel, and everything was reasonably priced. It was easy to get in after dealing with the hostesses at Lers Ros.

DO NOT GO HERE. THE ARE EXTREMELY RUDE, GOT MY ORDER WRONG AND WOULD NOT GIVE ME A REFUND. When I called they hung up on me multiple times after being placed on hold for 20 minutes. I used to go here more regularly when I lived in the city and I have never been so insulted and as someone who used to work at a restaurant I have a lot of flexibility for restaurant workers. I made my allergy clear multiple times before the order, they confirmed they heard it and they got it wrong and were so horrible in next steps. I will NEVER go here again and neither should you.

I went in during somewhat odd hours. The place was empty so had the chance to take a deep look into their decor. I am impressed. I am no designer but as a consumer, the place looks really ... uhmm... designed!!! The colors go so well and even the white clock placed on wall looked perfect. Food was great. The servers were awesome too. I'll definitely be back to try more from their menu.

Crispy papaya salad? Why not just call it "fried"? Or better yet, "greasy"? 'Cause that's what it is! Gross.
(2)Elaine S.
Tasty but a little on the sweet side. The crispy pad thai was not something I had seen elsewhere and was pretty well executed. Good flavor in the green curry, and I loved that they had eggplant in the mix, although my eggplant-hating husband was not pleased. We also got the broccoli sauteed. Very vegetarian-friendly, as most Thai is. All of the standard noodle / rice / curry dishes come with the option to get them with tofu and veggies. Pricing is pretty average with standard portions. Convenient ordering online for delivery w/Seamless. I might give this another half star if I could submit halves.

Krua Thai is consistently good! While I have never visited the restaurant, I have it on speed dial for Thai takeout. On a few separate occasions, I have ordered the green curry with chicken ($11), drunken noodles with beef ($9) and the pad see ewe ($9), as well as the crispy veggie spring rolls to start. The service is friendly and accommodating (by accommodating, I mean that I have a gripping phobia* of onions (yellow, red and white; see also: shallots, chives, leeks -- the whole family) and they were able to make all of the above without any (discernible) onion. A+! The noodle dishes are always perfectly cooked with fresh, tasty vegetables; nothing is overly heavy or oily. The green curry was tasty and flavorful (if not very spicy), and the veggie rolls are delicious. They have always arrived within the specified delivery time, too (usually 45-60 minutes). Of note: $25 minimum for delivery; it's easily met when ordering for two if you order an appetizer. *I do mean phobia, rather than fear (some attempt to correct my usage of "phobia" when it comes to onions, but I assure you that it is, in fact, real).

Awesome sautéed dumplings. I had colored duck, great meal. My wife had drunken noodles, vegetables cooked to perfection. Very nice ambiance.

I really wanted to like this place. I really did, but I have to admit, it wasn't my favorite. I was happily greeted by soup...however it was far too flavorful for my taste. Next, I had the spring rolls. The spring rolls are fresh and I had the chance to add prawns or tofu. I can't say I felt like the prawns really went well with the rolls, but the bargain hunter in me felt like it was a better deal than tofu. Also...I don't like tofu. There was also only enough peanut sauce for two half rolls. And last, I had the Rad Na, which is my favorite Thai dish of all time. There was so much pepper in it, much like that of my soup. They only had like 6 pieces of beef in it, and they put in this Asian vegetable (I call it Chinese broccoli), which totally doesn't go with the dish. I'm unimpressed. I came after a 2 mile walk/jog at 3pm, so most things would've blown me away for lunch since I was starving. The service was fantastic, and the place looks clean and chic, but I've had way better food from a food cart. And at half the price. Portland has made me a Thai food snob. Not sure I would recommend this place, but if you go, just avoid what I ordered.

This is a little popup shop that showed up on my scoutmob app so I decided to swing by. Their papaya salad is suuuper tasty! Second best in the city I've tried. Green curry with sticky rice was good and so was the pad thai. Nothing too special, but it was good enough that I would definitely come back whenever I have a hankering for Thai. Oh, and the waiters are super attentive and nice too.
(4)April M.
Cute little spot with amazingly great lunch specials. It was a Saturday. $10 got me soup, salad, 2 taffies & green chicken curry. The soup and salad are staple, but the app and entree are just a few from the list of options. I also ordered a pink mojito as well as a side order of taffies. Those things are addicting! Only 1 FOH worker, and about 5 other diners. Don't know why not many people were there. Music was hip 90's punk band music, stuff you'd hear on at battle of the bands mixed with some Jason Mraz and Jack Johnson.

My daughter is a very picky eater who loves Thai food, and I am an equally picky vegan -- all to say, our orders are generally complex and riddled with modiications. By the second time we ate at Krua, the manager knew our orders and dietary restrictions by heart. They have never once made a mistake. Once, when I made a mistake in ordering (forgot to indicate "no fish sauce," I ordered a second dish and asked them to box the mistake -- telling them it was totally my error and not to take the item off the check. He took it off the check anyway, and apologized, telling me he should have made sure, since he knows I don't eat fish sauce. What??? It was totally my fault. I love that guy, and I love this place. Many of our experiences eating out in SF are frustrating; it seems there are many restaurants that don't focus on service. For that reason alone, Krua is a standout. I would eat there even if the food were mediocre. But it's not. It's FANTASTIC. So, so good. Go eat there. Right now. GO!
(5)Tasha A.
This was a pretty solid Thai place. I enjoyed the Pad See Ew (or Pad C U, as they put it :)), though their chicken satay was a bit greasier than I tend to like it. The service was good, and the food arrived way faster than I'd expected. It was a convenient stop for Thai food, though I wouldn't call it the tastiest I've ever had. A-OK about sums it up.
(3)Xteethx B.
I came her for lunch and got the $7 deal for lunch combo, a deal you can get when you check into Yelp for the first time. (Otherwise lunch combo is $10. The Malaysian curry was pretty amazing. Tom yum soup was spicier than expected and the spring rolls and salad were okay. Service couldn't have been better; my waiter was attentive and polite. Decent spot for Thai in the Mission.
(4)J L.
The only reason I come here is because my coworker drags us. My coworker loves this restaurant is because they have cheap lunch specials. Food is mediocre. Service is slow even there are only two to three tables every time we come. Waitress can't function well and gives us a face when we come as a group with requests. Well, you have to understand when we come as a group, there will be people who can't eat certain kind of food or someone wants lunch specials and some don't. One thing I really don't understand is every time when food arrives at our table, it is always lukewarm. The shumei and samosa look like they buy from Asian groceries stores and deep friend in the kitchen. The last time I tried crab fried rice and Pad see u tofu. The crab fried rice was a bit soggy. The pad see u tofu tastes sour. They added vinegar into the pad see u. It's kind of weird.
(3)Meg T.
I dropped by here with Amy J on a Mission lunch stop. After checking out the menu I ended up choosing the make your own soup dish with thin noodles. The food was quite tasty but I had to remind them to put no tofu in the soup and sadly it didn't come out with the protein in it I expected. We'd stopped in because Amy had a scoutmob coupon, which they took with a little too much fanfare but were friendly and quick the entire time we were there. The only real negative in my book is that bathroom which was extremely dark and smelled a little strange. Always a scary thing at a restaurant. All in all though I'd come back for another try.
(4)G B.
This is my favorite Thai eatery in San Francisco and also possibly one of my favorite places to eat in the city. Ambiance: Since I primarily do delivery, I've admittedly only been to the restaurant itself once. I recall it being clean and welcoming. Service: I primarily order my Krua Thai for delivery using Seamless. I've had food delivered close to a dozen times over the past year and the food always arrives warm and within the advertised timeframe. Food (gluten-free dairy-free perspective): My favorite dish is the Yellow Tango curry; mangoes, onions, summer squash, zucchini, carrots, and bell pepper in yellow coconut curry. It's delicious! I make a note in my order each time that I have allergies, just in case. However, they're always very proactive and often include a sticky note saying that their curry dish is by standard gluten and dairy free (although they haven't lately, but I assume that's only because of how often I order, they probably know me by now). I really appreciate the extra effort they make in assuring me they've prepared the dish with my allergies in mind.
(5)Sunil R.
Tastefully decorated Thai restaurant in the same category as Osha. The pad thai and basil chicken were good. I give the edge to Osha.
(3)Kevin M.
i LOVE thai food and was taken here by friends for a group dinner when visiting San Francisco. We ordered about 10-12 entrees and 4-5 appetizers and every single one of them was really great. The environment is nice but also relaxed and the service was good as well. Would definitely go back.
(4)Morgan S.
Service amazing wings perfect mess of sweet and spicy. And got seated right away on a Friday night
(4)Christopher L.
Ordered takeout on Grubhub at 8:45pm and two hours pass. I figure they're on their way here since they close at 10:30. Ehhhhh. Wrong. I call Grubhub to see what's the happs. They call the restaurant while I'm on hold. Turns out the driver's car broke down... Don't have any way to get my food to me. They didn't feel the necessity to call? From the other reviews on here I can tell this place isn't going to stick around too long.
(1)Vincent C.
Shameful and Unprofessional. DO NOT ORDER. Put a delivery to them through Grubhub and it LITERALLY NEVER CAME. When we called to check up on the order once it was 20 minutes late (over an hour from when order was placed) they told us TO WAIT FOR THE FOOD, that it was coming, and they would credit us back our card to boot. More than fair, right? WRONG. Fast forward over two hours from placing the order -- and I'm famished and cooking myself, because the food NEVER CAME. Despite being respectful and even-tempered with them it was difficult to even curry an apology from them. Super unprofessional, totally shameful failure. Spend your money elsewhere.
(1)Amy J.
I had a Scoutmob coupon and a date with Meg T so we wandered over here for some tasty bites and much needed catch up. Yes, I actually have to schedule time with this lovely lady. I ordered the drunken noodles which I amazingly finished. I guess I was hungrier than I thought because I normally take half of it with me. Meg ordered a soup of some sort minus the soy. They were very helpful and service was great. Prices were pretty reasonable. Thanks to Scoutmob, I found a new place to eat in the Mission as if I need another reason to go back.
(4)Darius M.
Email receipt shows an estimated delivery time of 30-45min. It's now been 90 minutes and there is still no food here. I called at 60min to check on status and they said the food would be right there and that the estimate should have been 70min. At 80min, after calling 4x without getting an answer (just ringing on and on) they answered and said the food was about to leave. I can't rate the quality of the food, but DO NOT ORDER delivery from this place if you actually want to eat your food in the next 90 minutes.
(1)Michelle M.
I have been here twice before. Both meals of chicken green curry, red curry and hot and sour soup were satisfying and I enjoyed the clean, relaxed atmosphere. The lunch special was nice. The sangria was 2x1. Tonight I ordered the wrong dishes and I was disappointed with the experience. Unmentioned on the menu, the fish is deep fried, mine was hard and overlooked to flavorless. The tamarind sauce was good and the meal would have been tasty with a sautéed fish. I also felt that there were too many carrots, lots of onions and not enough better veggies on this plate. The second dish, the red curry, was tasty but I'd skip the pumpkin red curry that I ordered. The pumpkin was dry, hard and flavorless. It seems like it is added into the dish before serving so it doesn't soak up the same flavor it would have if cooked together. I hate to write a bad review because I did enjoy two out of three meals here... Hopefully this is helpful-- this place is in a great location, with a nice lunch offering and the potential to do well, but with better and more established Thai options in the area, they need to step up their service and not take short cuts on dishes.
(3)Lucia C.
This is a really charming place and the prices are great for lunch! I highly recommend coming here for their $10 lunch special - you can also find occasional yelp deals or other discounts online, making it an even better deal. The food in the lunch special was pretty good - they give you a variety of options for how you would like your food (i.e., in curry or stir-fried) and then you get to pick your meat. This makes this restaurant pretty vegetarian friendly, even though I am not a vegetarian. Plus you get a salad, rice, and soup. The chairs and decor are also really modern - they have a minimalist theme with black leather chairs and glass tables. It's almost mimics what I have at home... I haven't ordered delivery from here, so I'm not sure how that is (it sounds horrible from the other reviews) - I would recommend stopping by though because the restaurant is actually quite nice.
(4)Nizaria D.
Ordered delivery from here last night via Eat24 and it arrived fast, hot and delicious in a very good quality reusable bag with cord handles. They'd taken extra care to package the order so that nothing would spill and everything got to my door nice and tidy. The delivery guy was the sweetest, funniest person too :) I ordered the imperial rolls, papaya salad, drunken noodles (veggie) and green curry pork which included complimentary jasmine rice. I will definitely be ordering from them again!

After some struggle finding parking in the city we found one near Krua Thai (by the Gas station). We were sooper hungry after a tour to the city for my in-laws, and this was an Oasis in the desert. Well it was a late lunch hence No crowd, so no trouble finding seats. They have a decent choice of vegetarian options and the waiter made it clear on where the Fish sauce was used in some of the veggie options. This made it easier for us to pick. Penang Curry Yellow Curry Spicy Eggplant Thai Fried Rice were all good picks. The eggrolls for an appetizer was quite an apt choice. Aside the food the ambiance was nice, bay seating n more. It was a great experience indeed. Not to forget the bathroom, the lights were so dimly lit with some dark interiors, one can have their honeymoon in there {chuckles}
(4)Katrina M.
Delicious! Excellent lunch special!
(5)Brenda K.
I used to love coming to krua because the food is always good. I love the ambiance, it is so modern and hip. I think of this place as a high scale thai restaurant because it is more pricey compared to king of thai... But this place is so much better than king of thai. I always order the drunken noodles and crispy pad thai. Their thai teas are always good as well. I used to come a lot when they had their groupon since it would be super affordable. The best part of this restaurant is the hot waiters that work here. Not only are they good to look at but they give great customer service as well.
(5)Jason B.
Boss of sauce. I wasn't ready to say goodbye. Just a few veggies and strands of rice from my Surf & Turf remained. Waiter thought I was finished and reached for my plate. Not quite yet. Even though the chicken and prawns were gone there was still some sauce. I had to have every last drop. Homemade. Succulent. Sweet. Amazing. Plenty of chicken too. Could have used a few more shrimp and pineapple. Didn't matter. Sauce infatuation extended to the dumpling appetizer. Filled with minced prawns and more importantly served with a seasoned soy sauce. Latter took the former from good to great. Twenty bucks for the two seemed about right. Modern design felt a little out of place. And very clean. At odds with the neighborhood. But the expansive windows are great as is the service. As long as you don't take my plate before I'm finished with the four star earning sauce.
(4)Aaron F.
I've been to Krua a few times, and I really like the atmosphere and the unique flavors of the food. It's not all the typical Thai dishes, although you can get a few of those too. The decor is definitely trendy and upscale, a step above what you'd expect in the Mission. I like the Crispy Chicken with Basil, and both of the signature Duck entrees. The curries are also good if you're looking for something more traditional Thai. Unfortunately, compared to most other Thai restaurants I've been to, the prices are a few dollars higher and the portion sizes are smaller. Yes, we all have different preferences on portion size, but what it comes down to for me is that the flavors are so good that it leaves me wanting a few more bites than what I'm given. If you're looking to get your money's worth, I recommend going for lunch instead and getting one of the all-inclusive lunch specials.
(4)Seth P.
Ordered the crispy duck, chicken yellow curry, appetizer sampler, tom ka soup, and spring rolls. On time home delivery. The soup was a bit watery, but still had good flavor and abundant chicken. The curry that came with the duck was flavorful through the spice. The color of the yellow curry looked a lot like the red curry, and tasted very similar - though less spicy. Food was even better next day heated up!!!
(4)Tony B.
I used the recent Scoutmob deal to go to Krua Thai with a couple friends. The atmosphere is definitely nice. They did a great job designing a simple, clean looking restaurant. The food and service were totally adequate. We ordered rolls to start and they were fine. We had a green curry with chicken, cashew nut with beef, and larb. The larb had a bad smell to and not a great taste. Usually larb is my favorite dish. The cashew with beef was pretty good. The green curry was tasty but didn't have much chicken. If you're in the area and hungry, it's a reasonable place to stop and eat. It's not a place I would recommend for a special date or anything.
(3)Tommy H.
I love Thai, but this place is over the top. Great food and great service, with a modern/warm feel. If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping in for lunch, dinner, or just desert. My all time favorite is Yellow Curry with chicken, Thai Iced Tea and for desert Mango sticky rice! Yummmmmm :)
(5)Sean H.
San Francisco has a lot of great Thai restaurants--Some can be a hike to get to, Chablis out in sunset for example. But this place is great in the neighborhood. They did a great job on the interior a fun low key place to bring a date with sexy interior. The soups are great, lighter and fresh tasting. I give it five stats because the food is good and the addition to the area is great. (I like to get a glass of wine with my Thai food and this place looks like a wine bar)
(5)Vanessa L.
Best thai in the city! Hands Down! The first time we came here was from a ScoutMob deal, the second and third time was because we enjoyed it so much! You can't go wrong with any dish ordered here but be careful because asking it for "spicy" really means thai spicy at this place so be prepared for some heat!
(5)ella a.
My experience here was wonderful, loungey atmosphere modern presentation. My seafood dish with a ton of veggies was perfectly cooked, makes a huge difference when shrimp and scallops are tender. Will b coming back!
(5)Paawan K.
I love thai food and am so glad to see this in my neighbourhood. Great food at reasonable prices. While I mostly do take-out, it has a clean and modern look and would be a nice place to dine in if you are in the 'hood.
(4)LT B.
Did they warm up trader joe's "pad thai" in the microwave and put it on their menu for $9? No wait i think Trader joe's packaged pad thai is better than this thai restaurant's. Delivery took forever. The other food is standard...nothing special.
(2)Ayana K.
The worst pad thai noodle I have ever had. They had no flavor what so ever. The decor is nice but thats the only thing. The staff was rude and didn't speak much english. They won't get my business again. Plus, they are over priced.
(1)Laura F.
Krua Thai is my new favorite lunch spot.
(5)Ritik C.
Went here last night with my girlfriend and we were mostly underwhelmed with our four dishes. The Tom Yum soup was delicious. But the Summer Roll was very bland-- mostly just lettuce wrapped in rice paper. The panaeng curry was pretty good, but relied heavily on coconut milk. But the biggest disappointment was the hot string beans (from the sauteed menu) with prawns. The green beans were essentially raw when they served them. I had to send them back-- something I've not done in years. When they brought them back out, they were still significantly undercooked. We ate all the prawns and left the green beans on the plate; I later told the waiter, but they charged us for them anyway. I've been searching for great Thai food in the eastern half of the city, but sadly my search will have to continue.
(2)Rachel S.
Not sure why this place isn't busier sometimes but it's lucky for us because it's super good. The staff is friendly and the food is tasty and reasonably priced. I went with some friends that have high standards and they all gave it two thumbs up as well. I haven't found any better Thai in the neighborhood so I'm pumped about it!
(5)Ana M.
seriously? This place has nice decor and all but the food is not good! I was really disappointed with my curry.. the chicken was extremely dry.. There are so much better thai places in SF, don't even bother coming here. The prices are priced relatively high for poor thai food.. you are better off going to freakin King of Thai if you want better Thai food because even King of Thai shits on this place which is extremely sad... and the workers here are extremely rude!
(1)Teresa M.
I tried it out when I saw the groupon and it was excellent. My 5 month old daughter and I went for lunch. The staff were very welcoming. They offered a high chair and were happy to see her. They set the food down close enough for me to reach but far enough that she couldn't. The food was delicious and it was a nice break from work. Highly recommend.
(5)Timothy W.
These people lost my $50 order, even when I had a confirmation from them they had received the order, the they lied about it, and rather than fill the order or apologize told me never to order or come to their restaurant. I will never order from them again.
(1)Ralph D.
Lunch specials can't be beat. For $10 you get Soup, Appetizer, Salad and Entree - with a large choice of Sautees and Curries - with your choice of Pork, Beef, Chicken or Tofu.
(4)Vernon C.
If the food tastes good, eat it. Well. I read the reviews before I went to this restaurant. And yes. The food was NOT GOOD. It is not Thai food even though they use green beans, carrot, spicy basils and etc. You will not find any Thai food SPIRIT in your dish. I am so sorry to speak the truth. I came here for my friends. If you like Thai food, please consider other Thai restaurants. Sorry Krua Thai!
(1)Kevin S.
San Francisco often seems saturated with Thai restaurants, but Krua Thai really stands out from the crowd. The decor is beautiful--modern and sophisticated, with clean lines. The chairs are so comfortable that we could have stayed there all night, and the tables are spaced much farther apart than most SF restaurants to give more privacy. The menu has all your basic Thai dishes--Pad Thai, Tom Yum Soup, various curry dishes--but it also includes an impressive number of different and interesting dishes. We had the Plummy Duck and Blue Kamikaze (a seafood dish). Both were extremely good! The wait staff were attentive (even on a busy Saturday night) and not over-bearing at all--it seemed like they were right there every time you needed something. Jack and Mita, in particular, were super nice to us. This place is really a treat! I'll definitely be returning again soon!
(5)Sandy L.
Can't beat $10 lunch specials...it's $7 if you check in on Yelp! Nuff said!
(4)Carolyn F.
Came here around 1 pm on a Sunday and ordered the $10 lunch special, which included soup, salad, choice of an appetizer among four or five, and either sauteed veggies + meat or curry + meat. Seemed like a great deal -- until the portions came. The soup was served in a teacup sized mug and was quite flavorful with a little bit of spiciness. Had some little chunks of tofu in there. The rest of the food came out in a bento box-like arrangement. There were 4 little balls of "SHUmai" (their spelling) with a dipping sauce, a "salad" comprised of a handful of iceberg + red cabbage with a mayo-like dressing, a half sphere of rice, and maybe a cup's worth of my "entree" pick, which was sauteed eggplant with beef. The flavor was pretty good though on the greasy side. The amount of eggplant was generous. This is probably the right amount of food to eat in one sitting, but I really enjoy having leftovers to bring home. I would probably just order entrees and not the special next time. The surroundings and bathroom are very nice, clean, and modern. The sangria is very tasty.
(3)Cando V.
Lunch specials are decent value, the one guy that was there who served us was really sweet, presentation is nice. The food is ok. Certainly not bad but not great.
(3)James B.
San Francisco is home to many wonderful Thai restaurants. I've been to KRUA Thai a few times since it opened and here's why it gets 5 stars... The well thought out designed decor is very pleasing, modern yet immensely comfortable; especially the chairs - European imports from what I hear :) But most importantly, it's a restaurant that the staff and proprietors are very proud of running. Sure, they might not be a well-seasoned famous restaurateurs now but one can certainly get a sense of their zeal for perfection and passion in what they do when you talk to them. Especially when he says, Mom & Pop is in the kitchen... Yes, I will come back.
(5)Jonathan U.
Excellent food. Finally good Thai food in the area. Had the massaman curry and it was great. The tofu was a little boring, but everything else was perfect. Also had the fried bananas and fried ice cream and they were top notch desserts. I am moving out of San Francisco in a week and sad that I finally just now found a great Thai place.
(5)Andrew C.
Just had lunch here. At first we walked up and looked in, the place was empty. Hesitant to that fact we still decided to go in. The menu seemed a little confusing but my friend and I both got the $10 lunch special. Plenty of food with a pre-soup, salad, appetizer and main course with rice. Taste was fine, not the best thai food I've ever had but I'll probably be back for lunch again.
(4)Ms C.
came here for dinner 2 weeks ago. I had mix & match tofu & vegetables and asked if they can be made vegetarian & they certainly can! it tasted pretty good, i was especially hungry! This place has been open for almost 2 months, it's pretty new to me. The decor is all dim light w/ cool lightings, a lil sexy minimalist black w/ a lil touch of white theme, nice sofa, pretty cool place just to talk w/ your friends and chill and eat and drink thai ice tea! but do not talk loud/something really private, people can really hear you even though you'e like 3-4 seats away. the bathroom is also new and clean and mostly black tile. all the servers are asian, and i have to take 1 star just because they're still new and they seemed to look at you at times for too long...if you're used to paparazzi then it's fine, well im not, they should check on me without looking for too long at me, i a lil intimidated just because my seat facing them. Yet, they also forgot to refill my drink, well it's funny how usually when i'm not thirsty some restaurants keep filling the drink, and when i'm really thirsty they do not fill my drink. duhhhhh... overall, i'd be back again it's quite nice for a vegetarian like me.

Decent food.

my review is based from a delivery experience. i ordered the sauteed broccoli and beef, tofu pad thai, and clear chicken soup. the delivery time was average, and the driver was very pleasant. that's pretty much where the good times end. the container for the broccoli and beef was only 1/2 full. the flavor was great, but the beef was poor quality, and extremely fatty. the pad thai was sticky, dry, and had burnt undertones. it was the worst pad thai i've ever had. i was so disappointed with the experience, between the price, poor quality of the ingredients, and substandard flavors, i never took a sip of the soup, and therefore cannot comment on it. i just handed it to my friend to eat. i've walked past the restaurant often, and always wanted to try it. after my delivery experience, i'll save my time and money for one of my old favorites instead.
(2)Jeremy F.
I was impressed with the amount of food that comes with the lunch special. Staff was friendly and food was great. I'll be back!

Loved it! Went here for lunch with a Groupon Now and it was GREAT. Good food, modern decor, nice staff, comfy chairs, did I say good food?
(5)vlad k.
thai food.. it's everywhere. i've had thai food from so many different places in the bay area and most of them have been so-so at best, with hella bland and boring food. not this place. dishes were super flavorful! everything tasted really good. also, this was one of the only places around that was not afraid of making the food *spicy*. i remember back in the day, i would eat thai food and start sweating cause it was so damn hot. nowadays, most places serve it to you mild, no matter how much you beg them. not Krua Thai.. the papaya salad was incredibly spicy.. we were all practically crying at the table from the pain (in a good way). my one complaint was that the shrimp papaya salad came with just *2* shrimp. c'mon, man.. that's pretty weak. there should be at the very least 3 shrimp, if not more.

Solid meal, nothing outstanding

I was very pleased with the service, quantity and quality of the food. I have passed this place multiple times, so I finally ended up getting delivery through eat24hours.com with them. I'm very biased towards Thai food (I'm Thai) so I was very pleased to find a place that I actually will go back to multiple times. There is a nice balance of flavor which I'm use to. This place isn't Americanized as say others in the city. I'd recommend this place to anyone - now I just need to actually eat at the restaurant!

Beautiful space and wonderful food. The service is excellent! The plating is clean and simple, while the food is delightful. I will be back.

Great food. Yellow curry was rich and flavorful. Also enjoyed the crispy chicken with basil and pad Thai. Both very tasty. Great atmosphere and kid friendly, even on a Friday night.

Underwhelming. The service was weak: forgot 2/5 dishes and was slow. The soup was good but the veggies w/peanut sauce was the worse I've had in the city. The decor is awesome, looks super hip though.

Not sure why this place got stars. We got delivery brought to us tonight and..... the chicken skewers were small, rubbery and greasy. microwaved as well. the tom kha had very little galangal and very little lemongrass and was very bland. the tom yum had an obvious overly bullion/beef brothy salt overload and little trace of lemongrass and galangal. the larb salad was ok but tiny. the can of coke was the best part. they delivered the food in a very timely fashion however they gave us no chopsticks, forks or spoons to eat. no napkins. this is the first bad review i have had to write on yelp. ;(

I have been on a search for good Thai food in San Francisco. Krua is the first Thai restaurant that has impressed me at all. It has a surprisingly nice ambience (quiet yet elegant and modern) and the wait staff is friendly. The food is also delicious yet moderately priced (~$12 per entree). I recommended it to a friend who took her parents and they also enjoyed it. Definitely a great spot if you're craving Thai food and the Mission is not too far. I'm heading here later this week for dinner.

Good Thai food. Not much else to say. Oh the decor is nice too :)

It might look like Osha Thai, with the edgy decor and Thai-inspired dishes. That's where the similarities end. The food is both interesting and delicious - Osha tries to be both and fails, on both counts. Service was friendly, and our waiter wasn't afraid to suggest dishes. PS: The colored duck is amazing.

Got sweet deal through ScoutMob. Food was pretty good. Didn't knock my socks off.

i was really excited when i saw there was a new thai restaurant opening down the street. We ordered delivery on a sunday night and they were super super fast!! They said it was going to take almost 2 hours but instead it arrived within half an hour (probably because of how close we live). unfortunately my boyfriend liked the food a lot more than i did. we ordered several dishes and i thought most of them were pretty bland. nothing special. the food probably tastes better when you dine in. i'll stick with chili cha cha 2 next time for delivery.

Just got back from a very good dinner at Krua Thai. My zesty beef was excellent (spicy too) and the space is nice. The service could have been a bit faster and the portions a bit larger but overall the best Thai I've had nearby.

"Pad C U" (thats how they spelled it) was tasty. Shrimp were good. Portion coulda been bigger.

Went here because of a ScoutMob 50% discount. That's a good thing since the average entree was $15 and the beers were $5. The portions were rather small but more importantly this was not $15 quality food. There are 1,000 Thai restaurants in SF. Most of them offer the same or better quality food for less than $10. This appears to be a poor re-invention of a traditional Thai restaurant. It has a on-the-cheap faux-trendy aesthetic, overpriced food, and sorry the service was unprofessional as well. Not bad, just not cued whatsoever to their customers (i.e. don't come ask me 3 times in 5 minutes whether I'm ready to over when its obvious chatting with my dinner companion), two different servers appearing at different times in the meal, etc. Sorry, but Krua tries to pull off a Osha Thai type of trendy Thai restaurant but does it cheaply (cheap food quality, cheap decor, seemingly no training for their servers) and the experience is weak.... Save yourself money and go anywhere else or if you must have a shiny trendy experience, go to Osha where there are more people, its more fun, and the food is better (but still overpriced!)

- food: excellent - atmosphere: modern space - price: reasonable - staff: nice additional info: - this food delivers well

Well unfortunately I didn't care much for this place. It was too Americanized and the portions of the food were small. Don't get me wrong though, the food was good just a bit too simple in my opinion. There wasn't many choices either and they were about all the same in a sense. The staff is nice but a takes a while to even see them, it was a busy full night though so ill give them that.

Seems overrated - we ordered delivery recently. The papaya salad was too salty, to a point where we couldn't eat it. The drunken noodles (pad kee mao) were too greasy and lacked the classic pad kee mao flavor. Heard good reviews for the basil chicken. Delivery was fast. Seemed over-priced as well for the portion sizes. Overall not such a great experience

I was enthralled by the beautiful modern decor 1st off. Simple and elegant.( Although my companion sat where he had a view of the wonderful water fountain and said it gave him the urge to pee!!) The waitstaff were SUPER attentive. Food was superb. Atmosphere so comfy with beautiful pillows on the benches against wall. And even the bathroom was gorgeous! How many times can you say THAT?? I kinda hate to give this review cause i don't want my new fav place to get so busy that there is a line to get in!!

I've been to Krua Thai twice now. It's pretty new, so it's cute and modern inside. The staff is friendly and attentive. Both times I've been, it's been on the early side for dinner, on Saturday nights, between 5 or 6 something, so it's been pretty empty. We were seated right away. I assume it fills up more during real dinner time. The first time I was there, I had the mango chicken dish. It was good, but too sweet for me. I love mango, but I've noticed that mango thai dishes tend to be overly sweet for my non sweet tooth, so it's probably my fault and I'll just stop ordering them! :) This last time, I got the drunken noodles with veggies and tofu, which was nice and savory and tasty. Sometimes noodle dishes can be either too small or too large of servings, but this one seemed just right. It wasn't spicy though, even though it had some asterisks next to it. Over the two visits, we tried a couple of appetizers. I don't remember what we got the first time, but this past Saturday, we had a cream cheese sort of thing, which was just ok (my friends really loved it) and some curry samosa type things, which were good. The thai iced tea was tasty too. The first time we went, one of my friends had some noodle dish that looked really good, but I don't know what it was. My other friend had the pineapple rice, which he enjoyed so much, he almost wanted to order again but decided to be different. The last time, my friends both had a fried fish dish, which they enjoyed. Lots of fish, little bit of salad and plain rice on the side. Overall, we all enjoy Krua, and I'm sure I'll be back. The prices are good too, and it's an easy walk if you've been sunning in the park on a warm day!

Excellent pad thai with tofu, carrots, green bean, cabbage, celery. Perfectly seasoned. Exceptional service. I asked for a vegan version and they knew exactly what to do so I didn't have to explain anything. The food was really really good. My friend had the fried noodle pad thai and he thought it was good as well. Atmosphere is really nice too, for the price it's so beautiful in there!

This place was rather expensive for what is was worth. Honestly average tasting Thaï food, EXCEPT! for their cream cheese taffies!! loved them!! (wait, is that Thaï?)

This is a great little neighborhood place with a new modern design and interior. The food is excellent, affordable and the service is friendly and competent.

I would have given them four stars just with the thai tea if I hadn't been a starving child expectant of a REAL family size plate but didn't get one. The food was good. Honestly, if you're not a big vegetable person, ask for no veggies in anything you order. They use up all the space (literally probably half or even more) with vegetables and not the actual noodles or rice. I am being really honest. We order the sriracha madness mix and match plate with chicken, hoping for something spicy (cause what else would you expect from that name??) but you can only taste a hint of the sauce and the rest was just watered down sauce with a little bit of sriracha. It really wasn't spicy at all. The chicken was good though! Well cooked and all. The mushrooms were good too, and the broccoli. All I was asking for was some more spicy. Hmm, another plate we order was shrimp fried rice (the regular krua thai fried rice) which was really good but like I said, the vegetables overpowered the rice. Later we ordered a second plate of fried rice without the vegetables, and it was literally a MOUND of rice. We wish we had done that in the first place....And our third plate was pad thai with tofu. I wouldn't really recommend the tofu unless you're short on money, but it's pretty okay. The bean sprouts are half of it, but if you like it (like I do) then it's perfect. They said it was family size though. So we shared. But when it came out, it almost felt like we could have eaten maybe 1 1/2 plates on our own. And so we ended up getting that fourth plate of fried rice. DON'T GET ME WRONG. The food itself was pretty good. I just wish they had informed us that it's not really family style..

Unique twists on the usual Thai dishes. When a cherry tomato bathed in red curry sauce popped in my mouth, it was delightful. I want to try it again before I rant and rave though. Nice vibe. Would make a great date spot.

Best mango and sticky rice I have ever had - and this is my favorite dessert so I've had quite a few. Great prices, noodles and clean atmosphere.

Lackluster Thai food - as mono chromatic as the decor. We came in on a Sunday afternoon for the lunch special. The room was clean lines and gray. w/ some b/w photos of the Mission on one wall. Boring. I had the "Sriracha Madness" w/ tofu. It came with soup that was lukewarm salty packaged bouillon with shredded veggies. two inedible fried rolls and some tofu and veggies doused in chili sauce. I was hoping for something more complex and fresh. SF doesnt need another formula Thai restaurant.

stepped into a very modern atmosphere with booth seats on one side and chairs on the other around the perimeter of the restaurant. (there used to be another thai restaurant in the same spot: bangkok thai ##.) the decor along with the neighborhood, in my opinion, is the justification for the higher prices in food. gold bags $8 - never had it before - small, cute, 2 bites - some ground chicken with a lot of veggies. diced carrots, peas, corn - sweet and sour sauce had some diced veggies in there - really liked the contrast in colors when i bit into it - liked the contrast in textures - pricey for $8, but perhaps it's for all the work for tying that string to form the bag plummy duck $15 - fried duck breasts? - chunks of fat on some pieces - certain parts of the duck was drier than others. almost choked on a piece - plum sauce (tastes like the same sauce from the gold bag) is drizzled underneath and over the duck - thin bed of crispy fried noodles - red cabbage and a bowl of rice completes the dish - eat it while the crispy fried duck and noodles are not soggy - liked the contrast of textures pad thai $10 - very floury taste and couldn't get past that - shrimp just turned pink service - water was always filled - there is one male server that walks and serves dishes as if he was a dancer. he just floats around flawlessly other - bathroom was out of soap. since there was no soap i was all worried about the food preparation the whole time i was there. hopefully there was plenty in the kitchen. current norovirus outbreaks in schools just adds to anxiety. transmission route: fecal-oral - i wish the bathroom was a bit more hidden. can't eat well when i see the bathroom 3 stars for 2 decent dishes of 3 with good service minus 1 for mainly the lack of soap and a bit for the pad thai

good service in general. I asked below curry chicken and dish came in with pineapple instead of sliced potatoes. Second time, i made sure i get potatoes on dish. I also redeemed $3 off for lunch special when checking in with yelp app.

Pra ram with tofu left much to be desired. Fellow diners said their food was really good - esp. the red curry. Service was fine, sangria was good.

I love Krua Thai! I had a meeting in the area and saw the place as I was heading back to the 16th/Mission Muni. On Mondays and Tuesdays they have a buy-one get-one free on wine, which includes sparkling. Naturally, this is what caught my attention and brought me in. The first evening I ate by myself and was happily surprised that their menu seems underpriced. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai ($8) and had my two glasses of sparkling wine, spending under $15 (before tip). The next day I had a date and knew I was going to wind up paying so I came back (knowing they still have their BOGO sale). Two dinner plates and two glasses of sparkling wine: under $40 after tip. That's a cheap date. The place looks pleasantly chic-modern which lends to being overpriced but you'll be happily surprised looking at the menu. The staff was incredibly friendly both times but a star was taken out because the environment feels a little awkward, though I'm not sure why.

Ambiance is nice. This would be a good date place. I got the spring rolls with tofu and the Yellow Tango. The spring rolls were okay. A few bites I just tasted mint. There was not enough peanut sauce and the sauce itself was not thick enough. Maybe it would have been better to order it with real meat. I loved the Yellow Tango though. It was super spicy and at a "two star" spiciness, I don't even want to think about how hot a three star spiciness would be. The portion was generous and I took home most of it. The bathrooms are really clean, but the lighting is weak. Service was excellent and the waiters are cute.

Sadly I couldn't even try their food. I ordered delivery tonight, after taking my order at 8:45 PM saying they will deliver at 9:45, they call at 9:45 PM saying that they are too busy and won't make my food. This is of course after just about every other place has already closed :( This was really unprofessional and unacceptable. I won't be trying them again.

A little expensive, but solid curry

Love this place! Thoughtfully chosen menu, interesting wines, good prices, and great home-style Thai cooking. Am a fan of their original flavors and attention to culinary detail. Roti dessert a very pleasant surprise. So good to be in a place where staff and chefs so clearly enjoy their work. Beautiful decor and seating, so a comfortable place for friends.

As another reviewer wrote, you can't beat the $10 lunch special. You get a lot of food for the price and the quality was good (although I should've asked that my entree be spicier).

There's a lot of mediocre (and less than mediocre) Thai in the city. I feel like Krua's doing a great job of filling a missing niche. Reasonably priced, but flavorful (and spicy) and a little different than everyone else. They've become a weeknight takeout staple for us and we haven't been disappointed so far.
